I ended up with a Remington 700 270.

Absolutely gorgeous gun. I also looked at a weatherby vanguard but it just didn't do it for me.

The ticket price on the Remington was $995 and they came down to $775 for me.

I haven't shot it yet but damn I am super excited about this gun.

Thanks guys

It is based on the german mauser

Which is one of the best designs ever made. My GSR has a Mauser-style bolt, pretty much any serious dangerous game rifle uses that style.

I had a boat paddle .270 that was stolen by a “friend” and pawned off for drug money. Never could track it down. It was my first real deer rifle given to me by my father. I’ll never get over that. I will own another one someday.

Gah just typing that is making me fume.

Is it new or an older gun?

New Rushington’s are shite. Everything about/made by that company is shite.

If it’s new keep that damned gun oiled or it will rust to shite

I saw a review that had a bore camera image of the barrel of a newer 700, looked horrible. Full of burrs and tool marks. Still shot nearly MOA with just about everything it was fed.

That’s not the issue with them. They are and always have been accurate rifles. The problem is that they’ll rust unless they’re sitting in a tub of desiccant.

I wonder if it's an acid issue in the finishing process. Some metal treatments off gas an acidic compound that can rust metal no matter what in an enclosed space. I've had this happen to chisels that I stored with a newly blued KD wrench, in a tool box loaded with VCI and the chisel blades wiped with silicone. Polished everything back up, wiped with CLP (neutralizes acid), stored the wrench on a open shelf for a few weeks. No problems now but it was definitely the blueing that was causing the issue. Cheaper imports that use nitriding can do this too.

No idea but I do know the OP was warned not to buy a Remington but did not heed the OB’s warnings.

Good rifles under $400. $20 to add a pound of two-part silicone makes them better. Laminate Boyd stock really helps. Mine with Nikon glass is still under $800.

Gorgeous gun and Remington in the same sentence. Hmm. And could’ve had a Sako for the same money. Hmm.

Sounds like his mind was made up before he started the thread. That Sako is a steal. I wish I could justify another rifle.
