UofH put on a frickin clinic last night on how to attack the offensive glass and how to rebound - both offensively and defensively. The difference in the game besides having #3 on the court (for both teams) was the rebounding. Once Wade made the call to let Naz come back in with 7+ minutes to go and 4 fouls + keep Williams on the floor it was a 50/50 game. Tiger guards sucked at blocking out and rebounding on the offensive end. Houston Cougars had no problem at all. There is a reason they have 25 game home court winning streak. Atmosphere was AWESOME! Tigers played well. Smart, Taylor, Mays, Williams, and Reid should be our best starting 5 as the season progresses. We have those 5 on the court at the same time we can play with anybody.
Proud of the Tigers effort despite the results.....

To be fair both teams did a great job of boxing out and putting themselves in great position to rebound only to be called a foul which wasnt a foul. That was on its way to being aTm bad.

Your coach clearly didn’t teach English.

Again the intelligence of the Rant asserts itself.

OMG.... people who say it's all about effort either have never played basketball or have never played basketball at a high level.

Tell me what it's about Einstein, effort/fundamentals(blocking out), judging where ball is gonna come off the rim. That's all there is to rebounding.

quote:boxing out and anticipation are some skills you teach a-hole, but at the end of the day it is owning your guy, understanding where the ball is being shot from and how it might bounce and getting the frick at it. I didn’t play at a high level only high school and pick up with some pretty good basketball players from time to time. It is all effort. Watch the great ones like Rodman. Rodman was string as a bull. He would push on Shaq at his freaking size. Rodman was an exceptonal rebounder. Probably the best ever IMO.

I agree with your starting 5 except for Taylor. Bigby-Williams is our best inside player. I'd go with Bigby-Williams, Naz, Emmitt, Mays and Smart. I think those players are playing the best right now. Days is playing good as is Taylor. But Edwards and Waters are stinking the floor up. I think with them being the veterans on the team they are trying to do too much. Maybe they feel more is expected of them this season since they are the veteran leaders. I really believe this would be a much better team with Wayde. Talent is great, but nothing can replace experience and this team has little. This team will get better as the season progresses. Waters will begin playing like he is capable of playing. Naz is learning to play inside more. It will take time but once this team gets use to playing together and learn the system, they will be a tough team. Kentucky goes through this learning phase every season. Even Duke has struggled at times in games this season. Young players, regardless of talent level, will go through a period of adjustment. The Fab 5 of Michigan (one of the best, if not the best recruiting classes in NCAA history) lost to Purdue, Minnesota and Wisconsin their freshman season. All 3 of those teams had losing records in conference and only one had an overall winning record. That Michigan team had more veteran players than does this LSU team. And they still lost 8 games and lost to unranked teams. LSU has lost 3 games thus far and all to ranked teams. 2 of those losses were close games. This team will be a much better team come February. I think Wade is a very intelligent coach who knows what he is doing. But, he is still young and he is still learning. But he is motivated and is a winner and demands the same from his players. And by tournament time we will see a much improved, well disciplined and tough team. This team hasn't come close to reaching their potential. We see small spurts of what they are capable of becoming. I get discouraged like everybody else. But I have seen the greatness this team is capable of achieving. And by the end of this season this team will go down as one of the best teams in LSU mens basketball history!!!

Please check your basketball opinion card at the door.
We lost a 15 point lead in the 2nd half and lost by 6.That's a 21 point turnaround. Unless we are playing Sacremento Kings, under no circumstance does "tigers played well" apply in that situation!

UH missed 36 shots and had 18 offensive rebounds. They rebounded half their missed shots.
That's film study, effort, execution, fundamentals, movement once the ball is up, positioning, coaching.

quote:you're dead wrong. Of course, anticipation and blocking out are important, but rebounding is ABSOLUTELY mainly about effort and desire.

Coach Wade, please stay off of the rant. It is more important that that you actually coach rather than waste your time here trying to build yourself up.

Dirtiest team I’ve seen in a long time and the worst officiated game I’ve seen in the modern era.

You obviously failed to factor in the home court advantage to UofH and the zebras. There were some very questionable calls in the last 6 minutes of the game that contributed to the 21 point turnaround. One particular call was an offensive foul (I think) on Naz just as Mays drained a 3 pointer. Another was defensive rebound (I think) by Williams after missed free throw and they called over the back foul. UofH season ticket holder sitting next to me just laughed and gave me one of those "this is our house" looks. Waters did not play well but the team as a whole did IMHO.

There's unfortunately way too many on here who fit that description in all sports with way over-inflated self-esteem.
And they double-down on stupid by down-voting your post.
It's why I steer clear of this board most often. It's too often cringe-worthy. I just happen to have some dead-time watching the ballgame right now.
