What you got on this spectrum? I like to read books that keep me up at night. These are some of my favorites.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon. It was written - and takes place - in the 80s when the threat of nuclear Armageddon was real. It's one of my favorite books.

"The Gone-Away World" if you're up for some science fiction in this genre.

I just read Fever, which was good.

Loved The Stand and liked Swan Song, as a point of comparison.

The Wool series or the Joe Ledger series. If you like audiobooks then go with Ledger. Ray Porter narrates so you know it is great.
