Bums of Atlanta

I’m in downtown Atlanta for a conference this weekend. Last night while walking three blocks to a restaurant we were panhandled by no less than 6 different bums. I’ve been asked to spare some change before but never by so many bums in such a short span.
Who gives these guys money? All you’re doing is ensuring that they will continue to beg, and more will follow suit.
I did see one guy who was truly homeless looking. He was huddled in the doorway of a closed business and looked like the word “wretched” brought to life. He was sucking on a bottle of something and wearing rags. No shoes on, skin the color of ash. I felt bad for that guy and wondered what choices, circumstances, and paths of fate lead him to that state of misery.

How are they supposed to get beer if you don't give them money

Chicken banned him.

Usually mental illness or addiction. These days it’s usually the addiction.

Ah yes, a fate worse than death.

Never give money, give food or pay a light bill if you want, never give money, give money to NGO, churches, united way, etc...

Yea, New York busses a lot of their homeless here because “the cost of living is cheaper so it’s better for them” or some shite. I think Houston and Atlanta get more homeless bussed in from other big cities than anywhere else.
There’s also a lot of homeless in midtown too. But they really don’t bother you much if you just ignore. You get used to it and kinda just see them as part of the landscape eventually. Like dynamic art pieces

Stay out of downtown baw. Midtown and Buckhead don’t have the bum problem.

I thought this was a post about a new reality show, like Real Housewives.
But I would watch Bums of Atlanta.

The hotel and conference are the same place so I’m here.
We almost walked down Auburn street last night before we were warned not to. Dodged a bullet (possibly literally) there.

Lol. Yea if you are in south downtown or southeast that’s the worst part. You should definitely stay north and west of five points. Probably use five points and maybe courtland or peachtree center as your limits during night.

I'll gladly give money to a bum for beer before I will to the bums that stand in front of Wal-mart trying to get donations for some trip for ballet, soccer, or softball.

I don't get panhandled nearly that much in downtown NOLA + French Quarter.

We could round them up and drop them in Mexico. Even things up

Yeah when I go to downtown Atlanta for work I have to wear a bullet proof vest
It’s very dark.
Also that Marta ride in from the airport ain’t any better. It’s like a 3rd world country

I like the narrative! We’ve got enough imports from other states.
