She isn't being heretical (in my view). She just "wonders" if the interpretation is correct.
Some Christian denominations think makeup is sin, divorce is sin, clergy can / cannot marry, speak in tongues vs not, etc.
It seems healthy to be able to discuss it in a reasonable way without "judging" the 'belief' nor the 'sinner'.

I know people who cheat on their spouses. That is a sin. It doesn't mean I disown them, abandon them or even dislike them, but to try and rationalize that adultery isn't a sin is ridiculous.
