Women are getting screwed over the #metoo movement, especially on Wall Street

Wall Street #metoo strategy: Avoid women at all costs
No one should be surprised by this. When the standard is BELIEVE ALL WOMEN then no man is safe. So, on Wall Street and other types of business and industry, they are keeping women at an arms length (or more).
And of course my favorite part.
LOL.

No more dinners with female colleagues. Don’t sit next to them on flights. Book hotel rooms on different floors. Avoid one-on-one meetings.
In fact, as a wealth adviser put it, just hiring a woman these days is “an unknown risk.” What if she took something he said the wrong way?
Across Wall Street, men are adopting controversial strategies for the #MeToo era and, in the process, making life even harder for women.
Call it the Pence Effect, after U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who has said he avoids dining alone with any woman other than his wife. In finance, the overarching impact can be, in essence, gender segregation.
quote:
“Women are grasping for ideas on how to deal with it, because it is affecting our careers,” said Karen Elinski, president of the Financial Women’s Association and a senior vice president at Wells Fargo & Co. “It’s a real loss.”
There’s a danger, too, for companies that fail to squash the isolating backlash and don’t take steps to have top managers be open about the issue and make it safe for everyone to discuss it, said Stephen Zweig, an employment attorney with FordHarrison.
And of course my favorite part.
quote:
“If men avoid working or traveling with women alone, or stop mentoring women for fear of being accused of sexual harassment,” he said, “those men are going to back out of a sexual harassment complaint and right into a sex discrimination complaint.”
LOL.

Read this today, and can confirm at least in the commodities trading world, this is happening.

As ex IBer (with this general sentiment shared by my female IB friends), the monstrous insecure sexists already don't mentor women, they don't want to sit with women, and they sure as hell don't want to to have a substantive dinner discussion with women. The sexists or jerks have no desire to actually connect with female co-workers - they just want to sit and admire office eye candy with the bros or cop a drunk feel at a social event.
Developments like men avoiding mentorship of women aren't driven by insecure men shutting women out due to their hate. These statistics are disastrous to women because they represent the good guys (or at least non-monsters) seeing #BelieveWomen and reasonably concluding it's just not worth the risk - particularly in perhaps the planet's most reputation-critical industry.
If 3rd/4th wave feminism had an actual purpose ingrained within equality or advancing the actual best interests of women they'd recognize this, but the man hatred is just far too blinding.

No, we can legislate our way out of this!
Just make it a law that a man has to eat alone with a female colleague. If he gets falsely accused of sexual misconduct, it's just the price to pay for equality!

If you combine this with some of the other surveys going around
This is the type of statistic that makes "mentoring" opportunities almost impossible.

about one in 20 women “always” perceive asking a colleague for lunch as harassment,

Are they hiring less women also?

well they got exactly what they wanted, to be feared by men and have unfettered power over them, now they realize men just decided its better to not have women around rather then to be under constant threat from them 24/7

dont think so female empowerment nazi's, you and you alone must reap what you have sewn, you cant have it both ways.

they (women) cheered as they created this toxic and hostile work environment for women and now they want you cry about it when men simply refuse to go along with being subjected to the constant immanent threats caused by it

The broad stroke definition of sexual assault has painted men into a corner.

Mike Pence and I. I wouldn’t take the risk 10 years ago and I won’t now.

Bingo. If #MeToo is the way the game is played, I'm staying on the sidelines. Away from the cheerleaders

It’s not just the woman you’re alone with that’s the problem.
It’s anyone else that wants to create rumors, and false allegations.
I will not be alone with female coworkers, at work, or outside of work.

Yep. I have been to lunch alone with one woman in my professional career and she was a 60 year old woman in Bishop, Texas and we went to Dairy Queen (fine dining in Bishop.) That honestly is the only scenario I’ve ever felt comfortable with.

Everyone, and I mean everyone knew where this was going to happen. When you can end a man's career and destroy his reputation with just an accusation men will run away. Women who didn't see what was going to happen were way too short sighted.
