So I guess the new trend will be if your a JR and you have a chance to be drafted you should not play in your teams bowl game.this really sucks thi is the ruin of college bowl season. Just take out a insurance policy and play for your team

If we had a real OC and made the playoffs then the draft eligible players would play.

Sorry if my opinion isn't welcomed here but you are right. This happens to you guys more than any other conference team. The chance to play one more game with your brothers after a pretty damn good year. I know most of you defend your players regardless but you just don't see this at Bama even in years we miss out on playing for a championship. Orgeron should stop approving of this asap. It really is fricked up and happens to you guys every year.

The insurance policies are scams and don’t come close to the same compensation that a top NFL contract would provide.

Bowl game literally mean nothing. If anything these guys sitting out help get the younger guys you’ll need to rely on next season more experience.

Because you're still in the playoffs.

When was the last time Bama didn't make the playoffs?

The problem is if O does anything in front the media it creates a firestorm of O doesn’t care about the players. He needs to do something, but not publicly.

If I were him I’d have a leader like Devin white lay into the team in a closed doors meeting about what greedy did and really send a message to the younger guys. This will take a few classes to change most likely.

Absolutely nothing you can do. And if you tried, they’ll just start faking an injury to sit out.

this just makes it worse...

Auburn defensive lineman Derrick Brown cleared up rumors on Monday afternoon about his availability for the Tigers Music City Bowl gave vs. Purdue. Brown, who is expected to be a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, will play in the game.

From his Twitter:

Some guys love the game, the college experience, and their brothers.

I made this point in another thread. "THE PROCESS", that Saban preaches is what sets them apart and why his players play every game because it's taught that every minute of every game is just as important as any other if you want to attain greatness and obviously it isn't stressed at LSU.

Either you don’t understand the meaning of literally, or you have never played sports before. Even losing a back yard football game as a kid would leave me walking home to eat dinner in a state of frustration, that is the nature of being a competive person.

If you say that the bowl game means “literally nothing” then you might as well say that a player should sit out as soon as he has enough film to warrant a high draft pick.

If this trend continues to grow, then one day, in some college football dystopia, the Wikipedia article summarizing a football players career will look something like this-

“John Varsity recorded 8 interceptions and 120 tackles combined in his freshman and sophomore seasons, before sitting out his junior year due to a guaranteed high draft pick, assuming his NFL combine results are as impressive as expected”

Is that the future of college football that you want to see?

I agree a leader like Devin could lay down the law and is setting "the right" example but ultimately O runs that team and needs to change the attitude/culture/thought process of the team.

I was showing that to any one who plays sports, there doesn’t have to be the possibility of a national championship for any individual match up to have some “meaning” attached to it. I understand Greedy has money on the line, I just don’t buy into the bowl game is worthless narrative.

No... the large majority of draft eligible players should still play in the bowl game. The only ones who should consider sitting out are the players who are considered a consensus top-five talent OR top 10 draft lock. the rest of the draft eligible players still have the ability to increase their draft stock by a significant amount. They have more to gain and less to risk by playing.

Eta: Bowl games are not meaningless. They hold a lot of value to the majority of people involved with them. However, at the same time they offer little financial value and significant financial risk to a VERY select group of individuals.
