I guess the question is what does a player owe the school in exchange for his scholarship? That to me seems like a clear agreement between the two parties.

I debated adding him.

Ultimately, it's not that big of a deal, but he's definitely not in the group who played all year, then decided to leave his team.

Has nothing to do with the players skipping. IMO now that there is a playoff, the bowls are just about money. It’s no longer needed. If they expand the playoff to 8 teams then definitely should just say frick the bowl games.

feel like soon it's going to be unfair to judge teams and coaches based on bowl results when their best draft-eligible players won't play.

You shouldn't have justed them before. How can you judge a team that has been off for 30-40 days and done nothing but practice? It's not the same team that finished the season. These games have always been nothing but exhibitions.

What was the final Wolverdict on Jabrill Peppers? His "hamstring injury" was bullshite, and he was a pussy for skipping the bowl, right?

It still cost him a ton of money by getting drafted in the late 1st by Baltimore rather than early in the first if he was healthy.

The difference in money between a top 5 pick and the 32nd pick is massive.

eh he went from a likely top 10 pick to the 23rd pick. I don't know what the payscales looked like back then but I doubt it was as big a difference as you're leading on.

Add, or I guess subtract Will Grier, which had to be expected after his blind side tackle Yodny Cajuste bowed out. I’d look for one or more of his receivers to bail now as well.

There were no pay scales back then. The differences were huge the higher up the draft board you got

Wills’s total contract value over 5 years was 7 million

Here’s the top 10 in total value (likely much more guarantees as well than McGehee due to the injury)

I don’t have a problem with that. Why put anymore miles on your body if you are locked for 1st RD selection.

There are 13 players sitting out as of now. I’ll go out on a limb and project that not all of those guys will be 1st round picks

And I’ll go out on a limb and say that all of them will go higher than if they suffered a catastrophic injury in a meaningless bowl game

I can't believe players would sit over playing in the "33rd place bowl"

They’re playing in a potato bowl level bowl. Anyone who blames him for that is an idiot

I remember in high school baseball the select teams for most high schools wouldn't allow seniors to play. They wanted to prepare young players for the next season. I would laugh if Coaches started benching players in insignificant bowl games that were leaving the next year to get younger players ready. Haha

This is trend is going to make any game outside of the playoff even more useless. The entire national championship process will be completely broken in 5-10 years unless they expand the playoffs or scrap them all together and go back to voting for the Champ.
