Don't talk politics to try a change someones mind; you have a better chance of talking Tom Cruise out of Scientology. My fiances parents are extremely conservative(if that even exists anymore) and we usually talk about shows we are watching or work.... frick politics in the holidays.... Have a great Thanksgiving with your Family Baws, there's no guarantee it will happen again. God Bless

Political views are an extension of a person’s worldview. Challenge world views instead.

People who try to inject politics into friend/family interactions are fricking weird.

Bill Maher is a Breitbart hoax. Name one person who has seen him on TV since the 1980's. Ha! Can't do it, can ya!

I never bring politics up unless asked and even then I give benign topic changing answers.. I have a brother, who’s smart and successful but has become an emotion based political meme and he will at times try and play the gotcha game with me while I just want to enjoy the food and conversation..

So when we’re going around the table saying what we’re thankful for, I shouldn’t say trigger words like MAGA or God Emperor?

I doubt that, we all want the same things usually, politics has become much more tribal and congenital. People that hate on each other on this board want the same things: peace, love, wealth, health, and meaningfulness. Its the vessel we disagree upon. Thanksgiving is about what we have. Sorry for posting upbeat on your hate site.

People that habitually bring up politics at parties and/or holidays are assholes, especially if they know there will be people with differing opinions.

My neighbors had a Halloween party this year, and sure enough, one insufferable count just had to regurgitate the latest DU talking points all over us. My buddy was about to lose his mind, but instead he just said, "Why don't we just have a good time and avoid making everyone uncomfortable?" The party hosts happen to be split politically, but both of them were happy he shut that shite down.

The chick was super annoyed and left early. It was a win for everyone.

You are wise my friend. I'm going to string decoys and avoid drinking to quickly with my inlaws.

THIS! Everything has gotten political: talk shows, sports, TV shows, movies, sporting goods stores, fast food, etc, etc. We as a country need to talk about things other than politics so that we can remember our common ground.

I'm not one to bring it up at family gatherings but I don't mind jumping in if someone else brings it up, the vast majority of my family is well to the right. The wife's family has some that lean a bit left so she sticks near me around them to change the subject before I offend someone

I saw that clip on YouTube. And I read through the comments, tons of liberals disagree with Bill and have a huge problem with "don't talk politics"

Our family is luckier than some I suppose,, no mental illness in our family so you know there aren't any liberals.

Said no sane person ever. While a snippet of what BM may sound OK, his overall message blows.
