Just got back from 6 days in Iceland with my wife and 15 month old son. Beautiful country. It's expensive but not nearly as much so as I was expecting. We pretty much stuck to the southern Ring road from Reykjavik to Hofn and back. Sadly, we didn't get to see the northern lights, but that really didn't bother us too much as we saw so much other stuff.
Day 1: we were exhausted from the travel and the baby wasn't in a good mood but we went north of Reykjavik to Þórufoss waterfall and Þingvellir national park. We didn't stay long as the kid was having a screaming fit.
Day 2: this was the day we hit the golden circle. I can see why this is the main tourist destination. Everything is amazing!
Kerid Crater:
My wife and kid Loved the Icelandic horses. They have bangs!
Gullfoss was massive and beautiful. Notice how small the people look in comparison:
We ate lunch at Friðheimar which is a tomato green house where all the food is made from home grown tomatoes. We ate the soup and bread, it was great.
Day 3: we stopped in Vik on our way to Hofn. We stopped at Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach which is where all the ice chunks that fall off the glacier wash up on the beach. The pictures don't do it justice. It was absolutely magnificent!
Skogafoss waterfall. We hiked to the top with a baby on my back. It hurt.

Day 4: we went to what I thought was a restored Viking village but it was really a recreated Viking village. Basically Disneyland. Don't recommend
Also went to a national park and walked to the foot of the glacier.
Day 5: we were back near the golden circle and went to Seljalandsfoss (walk behind waterfall) and a geothermal baths. The baby loved it there!
Day 6: we explored Reykjavik. I wouldn't waste more than 1 day here if you go.
All in all, we loved it. Can't wait to go back and explore more of the island. Just noticed my wife and baby are in that last pic, lol.

Thanks for posting. You have an estimate of the overall cost of the trip?

Great photos! We visited a lot of the same spots you did, and it's amazing how different it looks when it's not covered in ice and snow.

Flights for 3 were ~1500
6 airbnbs was ~1100
Rental car for a week was ~500
Probably spent another ~1500 while there on food, gas, gifts, misc expenses.
Gas was expensive. About $2/L

Vik and the black sand beach is one of my favorite things/experiences I've ever done. It's magnificent .
Your pictures were great and I'm glad you enjoyed your trip as I did in August

How did the 15 mo old do on the flights?

Horrible on the way over there. The flight from JFK to Kef is only about 5 hours, but due to the 5 hour time change, it is basically a red eye flight.
He slept in his carseat for about an hour but refused to sleep after that. We were still trying to catch a few hours of sleep so him being totally awake really worked our nerves. He got restless and screamed when we held him. He just wanted to run around. He screamed a little while then fell asleep in my wife's arms. She proceeded to cry, lol.
I got no sleep. None, till the next night.
The way back, he was fine. We kept him awake on the long flight and he passed TF out on the JFK to ATL flight.

Looks like an amazing trip. Unless I'm missing something, $5000 for a trip like that does not seem expensive. You'd spend more going to Disney World for a week.

My wife and son went a couple of months ago and loved the place.

It really wasn't bad at all. Our flights were only ~$550 pp out of our local regional airport.
That is another reason we got one for the kiddo, although it was kinda a waste of money since he spent very little time in his own seat. Still glad we did it though as it would have been awful for the person who got stuck in the row with us if we only bought 2 seats.

Spectacular! Did you make it to the Vatnajökull, Europe's largest ice cap?

The pictures of diamond beach and the foot of the glacier are parts of Vatnajökull glacier.
We didn't go on to the glacier though as we had the baby and I'm pretty sure you have to get there by snowmobile.
It's massive though.

That’s the same place I stayed when I went to Iceland!

It’s a great home base for day trips. But there’s plenty to see and do there as well. We did a food tour and saw a show one day, then walked around and explored the next day/night. It’s worth a few days, especially if you go to places and meet/talk to people.
Thanks for the pics and reviews. Love Iceland and can’t wait to go back.
