There is so much misinformation in this thread it’s scary. This statement is parroted by people that have never owned an OLED over and over on many different forums. A superior OLED panel is going to be superior no matter what your viewing conditions may be and RTINGS have proven this for the last few years. LG has been the top tv with Sony having a slight edge, but the cost difference gives LG the win.

All LED panels suffer from the same issues and if you are ignorant to them then you will be happy, BUT if you continue to research them and find their short comings and see them in your set, you will never not see them and it will ruin your experience.

I agree that there’s always misinformation in these type of threads, but saying that LEDs can be better in brighter rooms because they can get brighter than current OLEDs isn’t wrong... But yes, OLED will he superiors in almost every aspect

Rtings says that the main problem with the LG OLEDs is that they change brightness with the scenes in the program, but they have the best anti glare screen of the 3. I think that’s how they describe “brightness” issue.
Ol boy showed me today in Best Buy the differences in the 3. The OLED has the best antiglare followed by the Q8F and the 900F was 2B.
But I agree with the above... the OLED is better in damn near everyway. That being said I’d rather get the Sony, but I’m not paying $2499 for a tv.

See a lot of love for the Q8!

The deep blacks and dimming are the main ones.... what are the others that are noticeable to a normal person?

Another would be poor viewing angles with LEDs that have vertical aligned pixels (which all the good ones have)

They both have shortcomings.

OLED's can't get as bright as LED's, if you run them at 100% brightness to get somewhat close to LED levels you will significantly reduce the lifespan of your OLED set and increase your risk of burn in, and it takes them longer to return to black from 100% brightness.

So if you are someone that is going to be watching a lot of HDR content, an LED set is better as they can produce very saturated colors at extreme brightness levels an OLED cannot match.

As a result of the large brightness difference, this is where you get the dark room vs bright room scenario.

Samsung Q9F brightness levels:

LG E8 brightness levels:

As you can see above, even though Samsung says they can reach 2K peak brightness, in tests they reach 1763 peak HDR and 1665 SDR, while the LG E8 peaks at 929 HDR and 364 SDR.

A superior OLED panel

Last I checked, there was one maker of OLED panels. LG continues to be the sole producer of OLED TV panels. Sony buys the panel produces one with their own property stand/speaker/software, but I don't think there is another maker than LG for these "superior" panels. And if there is, could you point out who it is that makes an "inferior" OLED panel?

Stopped in Best Buy to look at them first hand... it’s either going to be the 900F or Q8F. I think the Q8F may be the better all around. But, that 900F seemed to handle motion better. At least to my eyes...
Ol boy said either or are great TVs. Just have to pull the trigger, probably 60-40 900F-Q8F

The problem is that you don't know how those two TVs are setup. If they haven't been properly adjusted you're still comparing apples to oranges.

Correct and the list of LED panels makers for TVs is a short one as well.

I get that.... but the 900F is $1199 and the Q8F is $1499. No reason to push the cheaper tv, as a matter of fact I think rtings has it better at handling motion as well due to the processor. Which was said by the guy without me saying it first. Look I don’t trust these dudes for the most part and I’d rather buy it locally. This dude was pretty into electronics., typical gamer kind of guy. I have gained a good bit of knowledge of over the last couple of years due to building a system, but I research a good bit and everything I was told I confirmed for the most part prior to going in.

But, unless I drive to alterman audio buying locally ain’t happening. They typically push Samsung anyways from what I gather.

Sony was one of the first in the OLED game. I remember when they had a 13" for over $20k. However they decided a while back to focus on the processing and backend.

Will you come set my 900F up properly?

Because it’s who I am and I prefer to keep those guys in business. Most of the time you are getting better service and those guys have local Reps that they can contact to get stuff done. It’s something I stress in what I do as well.

Also... with regards to the TV set up. Seeing glare is seeing glare which i would assume is magnified in fluorescent store lighting also.
From what I’ve read, you can get settings on sites like rtings that should help. That being said, I’m sure it’s not the end all be all b/c all lighting situations are different. The 900F is supposed to do a pretty good job of sensing the light and providing the correct picture or at least better than most others do. I’m not paying someone to come out and set my tv up unless I have a dedicated media/listening room like Marco has. I’ll just try the setting that rtings recommends and go from there.

Still need to pick a TV though.

Why would you spend $1200 on a $55 TV?

Truth, the guys over at alterman can get you either TV. I always thought they were more Sony guys though.

I think they are mostly Sony guys.

Not sure how they roll on Black Friday, but that’s why I’m leaning towards bestbuy.

Taylor, the best is the 900F at $1199.... assuming you meant 55”

Sony OLED is $2499, LG OLED C8 is $2699, Samsung Q8F is $1499 and the Sony 900F is $1199. These are Best Buy prices
