It's kind of amazing she has made it this far in politics if she doesn't have the presence of mind to refrain from saying some dumbass shite like this while she is in the middle of running for a spot on the US Senate
This could be said for 80% of the people that hold office at the state level in MS.
The next guy to run for governor (Tate Reeves) is probably the most hated republican in MS yet the GOP of MS will still run him because he’s next in line.

Hyde-Smith recent comments saying she would attend a public hanging sealed her fate. This will turn off moderate voters along with McDaniel supporters not coming out to vote. On top of that it will energize black voters.
Yeah Mississippi will turn blue if plenty of people are to ignorant to investigate this and have no balls like you. Get out there and defend that idiot and quit your bitching!

Don't forget, she voted for Hillary.
That was a claim made by Chris McDaniel and she completely denies it.

She deserves to lose. How fricking stupid can you possibly be?
Exemplary cooperation and hiring Luke....need I say more?

Wasn’t she just making a lame joke using hyperbole to say she would have gone to anything the dude asked her to?
If the media, et al, are getting on her for that, if I were her, I would double down, and tell them to get a life and stop with the hyper sensitive shite, that means absolutely nothing.

I went to law school at Ole Miss, I am aware of the frickery in MS politics. You're right though, I shouldn't be surprised

I don’t think I can vote this go around because I didn’t vote in the midterms. I recently moved to a different county and havent changed my registration yet

This fake controversy will hardly move the needle.
Posted on 11/12/18 at 3:26 pm to deltaland
I’ll still hold my nose and vote for her, but I cannot wait to vote her out next term if any other republican with a pulse runs.
Supreme Court appointment is too important an issue to let something this idiotic mess up. We as a state have the worst political candidates I can think of, how stupid are we that this is the best we can do. Seriously the people with the lowest IQ run for office and they win.

I'd love it for a politician, instead of offering an apology for the remark, to just tell anyone who's offended to either stick it or kiss her arse. Hell that's why Trump got elected. Not a frick was given.

I agree it was dumb as hell to say because of the sensitive-arse climate we live in, but is there any evidence she meant it in any sort of racist manner? Wasn’t she just making a lame joke using hyperbole to say she would have gone to anything the dude asked her to?
Hyde Smith later said that:
quote:
"In a comment on Nov. 2, I referred to accepting an invitation to a speaking engagement," Hyde-Smith said. "In referencing the one who invited me, I used an exaggerated expression of regard, and any attempt to turn this into a negative connotation is ridiculous."
She was a Democrat until 2010 when she switched parties.
Posted on 11/12/18 at 3:38 pm to deltaland
Stupid statement but she wins easily. MS Republicans know that this race is too critical to sit on the sidelines. Dems won't turn out.
Posted on 11/12/18 at 4:57 pm to deltaland
The average Mississippian would love to see a public hanging.
She wins by double digits.
She wins by double digits.

She’s a moron.
There’s something about her that I don’t like, but I can’t put my finger on it.
Also.... (besides being black) How in the hell is Espy still in politics? That just shows how dumb some voters are.

There doesn't have to be. They will run a story about it being racist and then other articles will cure that story as evidence that it is racist.
It is part of the playbook.

quote:The average American witnessed public hangings for 100s of years. It was a deterrent to violent crimes. Remember the ones hung in the Lincoln assassination conspiracy? Pretty big deal. Remember all that were hung were white? Public hangings are being confused with lynching. It was a very stupid thing for her to say but I can't see how this is a white/black thing. But - that's the time that we now live.

I can't believe she said that.
Posted on 11/13/18 at 2:26 pm to pankReb
This would have been a dumb thing to say in Mississippi in 1930 let along now. Even Eastland wouldn't say something so stupid.
