2nd time in 5 years they've had Wrestlemania in New Orleans. Wrestlemania 30 a few years ago drew $142 million.
Say what you will about wrestling, that's a huge amount of money generated by an event that is basically a 3 day weekend.
Also puts the Saints' impact into perspective. They sell that stadium put several times a year, whereas WWE only does a major stadium show once a year.

Saints fans aren't sleeping in hotels and attending shows at the convention center.
This is those nerds super bowl. I was there and had a good time drinking.

That’s a lot of muggings!

WM30 was the biggest money making event in Superdome history. The average Saints game doesn't come close to that. I would think the Sugar Bowl makes good money though.

It's not just the convention center, which is where WWE has a fan setup for an entire week. It's also the 5 or 6 other, albeit smaller, wrestling companies that held their biggest shows of the year that weekend as well. Including Ring of Honor, who is #2 in the U.S. at the moment.

I would bet every home game sees between 5,000 and 15,000 fans, at least, in hotel rooms. Between away fans and people from outside NOLA.

Friday: HOF
Saturday: NXT
Sunday: WrestleMania
Monday: RAW
Tuesday: Smackdown
that's 5 days of packed hotels because most come for all 5, not just 1.
That doesn't include the independent promotions that piggyback off of the big weekend. They host shows in smaller venues all week, too.
It's a huge deal for a city to get it.

I don’t watch any of that nonsense but it really amazing how big of a following it has

That’s a lot of money that the politicians pocketed

Pretty easily when you don't have to spend it on rent or women.

no one will mess with a basement dweller in a Cena shirt and luchador mask.

Say what yall want about pro wrestling, but it's entertainment and people love it. Don't get me wrong, I don't like it as much as I use to. From the mid 80s to the early 2000s I use to love the shite.. My favorite wrestler will always be Ric Flair and then there are a bunch of others I like, a bunch I don't like then Hulk Hogan I hate more than any, but that's besides the point.
The storylines are fake, the matches are predetermined, but you can't take away the fact you can't to be a badass to do what they do.

Economic impact analysis is the alchemy of economics.

Every penny of it trashy.

That's insane. I think WM27 only did like $50 million for Atlanta.
I really wish they'd go back to having it in arenas occasionally. 35 should be in MSG instead of the Met.
Anyhow, this proves once again that Roman Reigns in the main event is best for business.

A lot of people would be surprised just how big their female following is now. Especially after the WWE put their Divas reality show on the same network that airs the Kardashians. there are hot chicks all over the place at these shows and conventions.

WrestleMania is any rock concert you’ve been to on steroids. You don’t even have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy WrestleMania.
Also the people who generally attend WrestleMania are not your usual stereotype. These people come from all over the world.

Except the Big Dog is out for the indefinite future, if he ever returns.
