That's interesting that there are more Black Females than Black Males in service.
Probably because black males get shot/blown up on the front line while the black females are washing dishes and stapling papers back at the base.

Your lower income types seem to have strong heels and don't suffer from bone spurs. Dunno why.

That's definitely not it.

The officer corps, maybe, but not in the enlisted ranks.

Exactly. 13 years ago, I left college after my first semester of my sophomore year to join the the Army. It was something I wanted to do and I felt the opportunities were better than going to college. Don’t regret one minute of it.

The military needed recruits so bad not too long ago they relaxed rules on neck tattoos.
This is false
Just like if you ever hear anyone who says that a judge told them military or jail. That's not how it works and hasn't been like that in a LONG time.
Was a recruiter from 11-14.

the idea military people are dumb is a huge misnomer
There are some very smart people in the military and there are some really dumb people in the military.

I scored in the mid nineties on the asvab, got a 20,000 signing bonus, and had my entire undergrad paid for using post 9/11 all for serving from 17-21. I’m 28 now
No wonder the government is broke

Yeah, I get paid $2k a month (Using Ch 30 and Illinios Veterans Grant) to be a full time (12 hour) student. Will have finished associates and bachelor's in 3 years (I finish after this next spring semester). Also got a 33k bonus in 2010 and a 70k bonus in 2014.
Thanks for your tax money, and you're welcome for my service haha

That was the main reason why I joined. I knew, even before post 911 GI Bill, that I had great education opportunities/benefits. That and I am a third generation Marine.
It is not for everyone, but can be tremendous for those who have nothing, or have everything wanting to give it all up. Like I said above, I was a recruiter, and they are not looking for turds. However, turd gate keepers fill the military with mouth breathers. The military always has a need/use for those people.
Also, the military is not what it once was. If you screw up now, your service is done. Not a good thing to have paperwork or NJP. They don't care and can easily find more.
I put kids in that I would be happy to serve with. Had one of my guys I enlisted today talk about how he has his EAS interview coming up. It seems like the other day he was taking the Enlisted Screening Test (pre asvab). Then was laughing my arse off because it reminded me of this old lady that was eating oatmeal out of a cup at the social security office while I was getting him a new card. Haha good times!

My pops put 38 years in with the Army and bounced. He doesn't do shite now. GL.

Military service should be mandatory two years for 18 year old males and we wouldn’t have so many college educated pussies running around acting superior and we would also have a population that appreciated their country.

White chicks sign up to run away from some guy that wronged them and get new dick. White boys sign up to blow shite up and kill people.

This is what this thread should be about.

The military is a jobs program.
Maybe, but its a badass lethal jobs program. As for the demographics issue, I can only speak from my own experience. My parents were middle class from the West coast.
I was big on intellect and short on maturity and responsibility, so the military was a better option for me than college.
I met my share of dumbasses and geniuses from all parts of the country, all races colors and creeds. We all got along pretty well for the most part, though I did see some bigotry, favoritism, nepotism and jingoism. The military to me seemed to be a microcosm of American society. For better or for worse, we made it work because it is never about the individual, mission comes first and frick what "you" don't like.

Just like any major corporation with a million employees, you will have some dumb people. You will also find a lot of very bright people. I’ve been in the military for 25 years and it has been an amazing career. I have 2 degrees and had other options but I love it. So to say only the poor or only those without options join the military is ridiculous. Some of the comments I’ve read here are just wrong and ignorant.

The emergence of $$$ for college drew in a lot more demographics.
