The sheer crazy that is the I-12 corridor cannot be overstated

Recently made a long road trip up north and east and I have to say in complete honesty that I never saw anything along that journey that quite compares to the bat shite crazy that Is I-12. Entirely too few lanes for such traffic, and combined with the sheer number of truck and LP and TP crazies, it makes for a very volatile cocktail. It’s quite unnerving by comparison

Were you sleeping through the I-10 in Baton Rouge portion??
Because that’s significantly worse.
Because that’s significantly worse.

Redundancy is redundant.

What blows my mind is when it gets to three lanes, the trucks are allowed in the far left lane. There was a back-up the other day of probably 50 cars due to about 5 trucks in all three lanes jockeying to see who could get in front of each other.

You should just take the loop. It goes through New Orleans.

Take the Loop to bypass the craziness

Driving from Houston back to Covington/Mandeville is always a delight. Each segment has it's problems, but the drivers seem a special combination of stupid/crazy on I-12, at least up to the Mandeville/Covington area.

There aren't enough alternative routes.
In fact, there aren't any continuous east-west routes south of I-12 between Baton Rouge and Hammond. All development south of I-12 in the future will dump traffic onto I-12.
On the north side, US190 is still only 2 lanes with no controls for development or curb cuts.

Yeah trucks and RV's need to be restricted from the far left lanes on that stretch.

I-12 is a shite show, but I-35 from Dallas to San Antone is the worst I’ve ever seen.

I have to agree with this. I've never seen an interstate come to a complete stop, and then back to 70+ for no reason at all, so many times in my life. Its a death trap.
Now the toll road around Austin is the shite...

Without question. I can’t be that difficult to paint words on the lane saying ‘Not Trucks Or RV’s In This Lane” and erect signs to drive that home.

I've been run off the road on interstates twice in my life. One was on I-12 in the aftermath of Katrina when I-10 was shut down through NOLA, and the other was on I-10 within a half mile of the I-12 split.

30 years of continued construction on I-10 and 12 but still a total cluster.
