Stats Per ESPN

2018: 101 (Ensminger)
2017: 48 (Canada)
2016: 71 (Cameron/Ensminger)
2015: 58 (Cameron)
2014: 75 (Cameron)
2013: 33 (Cameron)
2012: 77 (Studwara)
2011: 57 (Studwara)
2010: 81 (Crowton)
2009: 102 (Crowton)
2008: 51 (Crowton)
2007: 9 (Crowton)
2006: 14 (Fisher)
2005: 39 (Fisher)
2004: 34 (Fisher)

Now I realize this doesn't tell the whole story on offense, but I think it's rather telling that since Jimbo left we've had a large deficiency in our offensive production.

Some of you keep saying E needs time, but these stats seem to indicate that's not going to make much of a difference. All of these guys either stayed around their same ranking each year or got worse.

Only Canada, Crowton (Year 1 after Jimbo) and Cameron (year 1 and Metts senior year. this was an offense loaded with studs) have had us inside the top 50 in total offense since Jimbo left.

Ensminger holds the #2 (partial year) and #6 spots on worst total offensive rankings. I am trying to understand how he is the answer to LSU's offensive woes.

Canada brought in a modern offensive philosophy and had more success in one year than most of these guys did there whole career. Would it have lasted or got worse like other guys? I don't know, but I do know if we keep E and don't find another OC to modernize the offense like Canada tried to do, you shouldn't expect LSU to break the top 50 in total offense. Don't plan on any championships with an offense outside the top 50 either.

Total offense is a flawed way to rankan offense.
In 2013 we were 11th in the country in yards per play but with our ball controlled offense we were 105th in plays ran so it hurt our totals.

Offense A= 500 yards on 50 plays

Offense B= 510 yards on 70 plays.

Totals says that Offense B was more productive but when the ball was snapped Offense A was more productive.

I realize you said it didnt tell the whole story and my post wasnt a jab at you

It really surprised me Canada was 48 with Etling at QB. Considering Cameron's best year was only 33 with Mett, OBJ, Landry, and Hill all on the same team. I would have liked to see what Canada could have done with that talent.

No worries. I am too lazy to do this for other offensive stats. This took too long on my phone. .

It would be great if others would add those stats, like yards per play, ranked for a more wholesome comparison, but it's late and I doubt anyone else is reading this.

This is the bottom line for me, and O said it was when he was hired. It's time to put up, or shut up for O. Fix this train wreck offense by whatever means necessary, I don't care who our OC is. But if O can't fix it, next man up after next year.

Alright here it is:

Offensive TDs per game.

2017: 74
2016: 53
2015: 32
2014: 87
2013: 18
2012: 74
2011: 19
2010: 70
2009: 16

This is per the website you linked. All prior years have O for the stats and are consistently 108 so I am assuming thats not the actual ranking. Outside of the Mett years its also pretty bleak.

2013: 12
2012: 74
2011: 36
2010: 68

Yeah, has to be rushing. It's way off the mark this year, and judging by YPP stats, this is offensively our worst offensive year. That's a tough pill to swallow.

If I had to guess (Not gonna do the stats this time ) our ypp is propped up heavily by the rushing numbers.

Not that I care so much about how the yards come, but it would explain why this year, when we don't have a stand out back, our ypp is so horrible. I wonder what it would look like each year if you just looked at the passing yrds per play.

That'd be a bitch to calculate and then assess ranking... Someone with a spreadsheet could do it. Here is yards per passing attempt ranking:

2018: 92
2017: 13
2016: 39
2015: 36
2014: 55
2013: 3
2012: 66
2011: 42
2010: 63
2009: 65
2008: 73
2007: 37

Ensminger is throwing more, but that doesn't mean we're being more productive per throw. In fact, this is statistically our worse yards per throw year by quite a large margin since 2007. Every stat I look at, it just gets worse and worse.

I know. I really tried to take a statistically un-emotional approach to ranking our offenses over the years, and Ensminger comes out on the bottom tier in A LOT of the offensive stats.

Couple more Stats.

We are 90th in OTD(% of Drives resulting in a TD)
and 95th in OTF (% of touchdowns scored on drives with 1 first down)

Yup, and by a significant margin in most categories. We're not just a few places lower, we're significantly lower from last year.

The talent deficiency between Canada and Ensminger isn't nearly as big as the drop off in offensive production either. So I find it hard to believe that the reason our offense sucks so bad is due to talent alone.
