Flip a switch and you go to sleep 60 seconds later. Wake up after a certain amount of time or sleep cycles. Is this medically possible?

You know, you’re still in the elementary phase of this idea. It’s not even a business yet, let alone a product. You are a bright young man but I just don’t see myself making any money off of this and for that reason I’m out.

I think it’s possble. It would require a machine to rapidly cause REM cycles in the brain without other deleterious effects.

There is a true story about said machine. Goes something like:

There once was a man from Nantucket
Who built a jack off machine...

Well you know the rest. See, it has been invented.

I think about this all the time, especially after what Inception played around with. I am pretty ignorant in medical procedures, but I always wondered how different the path—>goal was between someone going to sleep/unconscious and being put in a coma? I mean say someone is put under using drugs/anesthesia, this can only keep a mind unconscious for so long, while an induced coma can keep this mind state for however long required.

Just seems like at some point in the future we are able to manipulate an unconscious state without use of drugs as we please.

Another point, but what about extended space travel in the future? It is already looking that it will be cheaper and easier to build spacecraft that keep crew under for extended periods of time, with periodic wake times. Likely while having a centrifugal created gravity to reduce zero G issues to the human body. Note, I don’t mean suspended animation, at least not in the foreseeable future, but I do think it is coming.

My wife took an Ambien once. I thought she was possessed by the devil. She will never be taking Ambien again.
