Planning honeymoon for May 2019 - any suggestions on where to go/places to avoid that time of year?
Places/areas I've looked into:
Europe: Italy, Greece, Spain
Exotic Non-Caribbean Islands: Fiji, Bora Bora, Maldives
Caribbean Islands
Other: Argentina, Thailand
The main emphasis is to have a relaxing, and interesting, once in a lifetime experience to kick off our lives together. Will probably do 10-14 days.
Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Can you give us an idea of budget and what you like to do when you vacation?

Italy was fantastic for my 12-day honeymoon in September. We did Rome a couple days then spent 2-3 days in each of Positano, Ravello and Sorrento, with day trip to Capri. All were great, but Ravello was our favorite hands-down. Very relaxing. Highly recommend!

Italy/Greece/Spain
Never wanted to go until several TD travel board brethren posted trip reviews and photo journals on here. If you have the opportunity to go to Europe now, go ahead and pull the trigger. I had the opportunity 20 years ago never went, and to this day I wish I had because I still haven’t been.
Argentina is also up there but that’s a trip you’ll wanna take without the Mrs.

If you do a place with a lot of sightseeing then you’re going to be exhausted at the end of the day and that does not bode well for honeymoon time at night. It may be just me but on my honeymoon all I wanted to do is lay on the beach with good food and drinks and that’s why we went to st Lucia. Had a great time at sandals there

I’m going there with the Mrs. in March.

Some friends rented a big secluded villa in St Maarten-St Martin and stayed several days. It wasn't cheap, but probably in the ballpark of going to Europe. I think a caretaker delivered requested groceries.
They primarily just chilled at the house, but had a rented jeep to go in to town with. It looked very relaxing and nice.

I went to France, Italy, and Greece for honeymoon. One of the best decision of my life.
Skip tropical islands or resorts for now. Go to Europe. It was my first time and I was totally blown away.

We did an adults only all inclusive resort in Jamaica for our honeymoon in May of 18. Sunset at The Palms in Negril Jamaica. Amazing experience

If he says Maldives and/or Bora Bora for 14 days is on the table, I assume his budget is pretty high.

That’s possible. But it’s also possible that he underestimates the cost of those trips. Hard to know without a budget.

My wife and I spent 3 weeks in Europe for our honeymoon and our favorite places were Italy's Amalfi Coast in the Sorrento/Positano area and Lucerne, Switzerland. I highly recommend visiting both.

My wife and I split a 2 week honeymoon between Barcelona and the Amalfi coast around the same time of year you are planning.
Weather was perfect in both locations.
I enjoyed Barcelona quite a bit more, but I'm a guy who enjoys big cities and everything they have to offer.
The Amalfi coast is one of the most visually stunning places I've ever been.

We skipped the nearby islands just because it's fairly easy to fit those trips into normal life and shorter time frames.

Don’t do Europe - too exhausting and tempting to overdo yourself sightseeing. Not a honeymoon place.
Caribbean- sure just pick an island with enough not beach stuff to do. Won’t occupy 10-14 days though.
You could stop in Hawaii for 5 days on the way to French Polynesia if you want to OT baller. Or similar but different go to Maldives/Seychelles with a stopover in Dubai or London/Paris to get a good mix of experiences.
10-14 days is a long time. Choose wisely or you’ll tire yourself out and be unable to enjoy the experience.

For that length of trip, Seychelles with a city stop in London sounds like an awesome honeymoon idea. Especially if you’ve never been to Europe.
Let me throw a new option into the mix.
Cape Town for 8-10 days with a 3 day safari in Botswana.

Just remember one whole day of travel to get to your first destination and another whole one to get back. Then remember the hours it takes for travel in between. Usually a half day of doing one city to another in the same country. If to a different country, then longer.
I suggest keep it to one country for your short trip. Italy having a great high speed train that goes Naples to Rome to Bologna to Milan (4 hours)
Bologna is a great base of operations. It’s the most underrated place in Italy. You could take a wonderful day trip from Bologna to Florence/Milan/Venice/Rome/Pisa/Modena/Parma/Ravenna/Naples etc
I haven’t been married yet, but I expect a wedding followed by nearly traveling everyday would get annoying and tiring. I suggest parking yourself in once spot regardless

Why “once in a lifetime”? Seems like a high bar to set so early in your marriage. With luck and perseverance, you’ll be together a long time. Don’t put so much symbolic pressure on the honeymoon—think of it rather as a good start, not the pinnacle of your travel experiences. Take the planning pressure off.
Also, from an old married lady, all this planning should be done in concert with your spouse to be. Tell her to make a list of what she would like to see/do/experience on your wedding trip—and you make your own list, then compare lists. I say list, because some people-pleasing types will just agree with each other, or agree with the more dominant partner. Make the planning an exercise in how you’d like to go forward together in life. LIsten, consider, discuss, Resist the urge to do detailed planning on a giant, grand gesture that costs $$$ without involving her. Even if she expects you to figure it all out, it’s a better idea to set off on married life as co-planners who don’t unduly surprise each other with big expenditures decided upon unilaterally.
Add Costa Rica to your list: ecotourism, outdoor activities, scenery, slightly out of the ordinary rather than a cliche beach resort honeymoon.
But, of course, you should be talking w/spouse about what he/she really wants to do. No one else’s opinion should matter.
