Is anyome interested in this movie?

I never was a huge Queen fan, but I think this one could be a lot of fun.

Seeing it this weekend. The critics say that the guy playing Freddie does a really good job. Hopefully the movie will be as good as the trailer makes it out to be.

Is this:

Gay Out of Compton?

Instead of STRAIGHT Out of Compton

I enjoy some Queen music and love Freddie Mercury's voice. But, I have no interest in the movie. Maybe some buzz will get me to check it out. Likely, not.

I love biopics but was discouraged at the PG-13 rating as I don’t think these types of movies could be good under those restrictions. I don’t understand the need to make a movie like this family friendly, when people 25 and under don’t know who the hell this is

That being said, I will absolutely Hulu this in about a year

for years Sacha Baron Cohen tried to make a Queen movie with himself starring as Freddie. it would have been a real deal, heavy biopic. drugs, orgies, sexual identity issues, ect.. but the band hated it and felt the movie should focus more on how they carried on after freddies death.

so i can only assume this movie is prob a lazy puff piece.

i find it very likely that May would be overly protective of his band's image and also himself butthurt over not getting much recognition for his post-freddie career, but i guess when the movie's out we'll know if it's a fawning, by-the-numbers biopic or a real movie with some weight.

I think you’re dead on. I’ll go to see it just to hear Queen’s music in a movie theater. I’m sure Malik did an awesome job but it’s a damn near impossible task to pull off Freddie Mercury or any larger than life personality like that from the ‘80s or later simply because we’ve all seen the real thing in his prime.

I can pull up a great hd video of the Live Aid concert right now so it’s tougher to recreate that. If it was Elvis or Jackie Wilson, for example, there would be much more value in a movie “bringing it to life” because the media quality wasn’t nearly as good back then.

Good point. I appreciate his talent but you’re right, I can watch him on YouTube anytime and I’m not interested in his personal life.

How y’all was Freddy? The guy plying him looks scrawny but pics and vids of the freak Freddy makes him look over 6 feet.

Sure.

More like thrilled to not be associated with a glorified Behind the Music episode.

May has said repeatedly that Bohemian Rhapsody is not a movie about Queen. It's a movie about Freddie Mercury.

We can only speculate what Cohen had in mind for his movie and if May approved.

Never a Queen fan and will likely wait until the movie hits one of my movie services before watching.

No need to speculate. SBC's comments at the time of the split below on Howard Stern.

Speaking to the US radio host Howard Stern, Baron Cohen said he hoped to present a “warts ‘n’ all” view of the legendary singer’s hedonistic lifestyle, but Mercury’s former bandmates were more concerned with protecting their legacy.

The comedian and actor said: “A member of the band – I won’t say who – said: ‘You know, this is such a great movie because it’s got such an amazing thing that happens in the middle.’”

“And I go: ‘What happens in the middle of the movie?’ He goes: ‘You know, Freddie dies.’ ... I go: ‘What happens in the second half of the movie?’ He goes: ‘We see how the band carries on from strength to strength.’

“I said: ‘Listen, not one person is going to see a movie where the lead character dies from Aids and then you see how the band carries on.’

That's sort of how I feel. I still may go see it in theaters, but someone nailed it in a thread a week or two ago when they said the trailers are making it seem like they basically just made a movie to showcase Queen's music and nothing else. And I kinda agree with that. And that is disappointing.

I am hoping it is better/more than just that. But I am not confident that it will be.

Pretty much everything SBC said on Howard Stern was BS. Freddie Mercury, spoiler alert, doesn’t die in this movie. The film ends six years before his death and right after he is diagnosed with HIV.

SBC wanted a gritty character study of Freddie Mercury’s battle with the disease to go along with his bohemian, Casanovan lifestyle. It might have made for a better and more critically well-received movie.....but it wouldn’t have been what Freddie wanted. He kept his private life private for a reason. He would have wanted a film that celebrated his music - which is what this film reportedly does.

I have no urge to see this movie. It looks like they just made a 2 hour montage of his most iconic moments.
