Would have liked a more personal story about Freddy and the members of queen.

Agree with this. These types of movies seem rushed as shite, and would be better off as 8-10 hour mini-series. There’s just so much shite that needs to be covered. Queen warrants that kind of attention.

Eta: really enjoyed the movie, fwiw. Just being a person that enjoys history and music, it kind of leaves you wanting more answers.

Of course you can argue that Queen is the GOAT. Music is Art which is all a matter of opinion.

So, you take the writers opinions as a matter of fact? Must suck not to be able to think on your own.

Any writer who ranks Nirvana over Queen does not deserve to have their opinion respected.

It's Rolling Stone Magazine, so it has to be a true.

Rolling Stone Magazine, for whatever reason, has always disliked Queen. One of their critics from the 70s called Queen the first fascist rock band in history when reviewing one of their albums.

I kind of miss the old Alamo, tucked away on Mason in an old strip mall

They're more interested in being controversial than anything else. I remember one of their Top 50 lists where they dismissed bands like the Eagles as not having a place in any Rock list. Then a decade later they'll list Hotel California as one of the most important Rock albums. They just like to stir shite up.

Great flick. The only problem for me is that they screwed with a lot of facts (I know, it's Hollywood)--particularly the timing of Freddie's diagnosis and the band dynamics. I know the whole film is based on building up to the Live Aid concert, but they made it look like he had to get up the strength to do it--like it was his last stand and first time he told the band he had Aids. In real life he never found out until (by all reports) a few years later.

Plus, the band had just finished a world tour. Live Aid wasn't some "reunion". Queen hadn't been split for years.

As a long-time fan all of this surprised me. But all that aside, great flick, great music.

That's the status quo for 90% of biopics (especially music and sports, which is odd because both categories have concrete timelines and stats).

The critics that were comparing BH to Walk Hard were ironically giving both movies a compliment. Walk Hard lampooned the classic music biopic so perfectly that some think that we should do away with the entire format. As if Dewey Cox had exposed the fact that we like step by step stories of musical redemption and we should be ashamed of it. That's like saying that we should never have another heroic western because Blazing Saddles skewered the classic form.

I try to avoid researching a movie's topic prior to seeing it. I don't think that I would've enjoyed Rudy and Invincible as much if I'd gone in knowing the real stories and the true timelines.

I'm with you on all that. It's just that I went into this one knowing all those facts ahead of time, unlike Rudy, Walk Hard, and others. Gotta just sit back and enjoy the ride...

I've tried not to dig too deep into the "real" story. May approved this one, though. Seems likely to me it's at least partially because it doesn't mention them playing apartheid South Africa and the like (as in, they weren't broken up in the lead up to Live Aid - they had just done some controversial shows which had earned them much criticism.)

Loved it because I love Queen. The people who hate it hate it mostly because it doesn’t go deeper into Freddie’s personal life, as if his privacy is their toy to play with in movies. Pish posh; Queen will rock.

Sitting here in a completely empty theatre watching the Wembley scene. Dang good movie. Glad I skipped out on work to come watch it this afternoon.

Saw the movie. I’m not a huge Queen or Freddy fan but I have enjoyed their music and still do.

The best thing about the movie for me was that even though it was nearly a biographical movie and I knew where it was heading, it never got slow at any point of the 2 hours.

I don’t have a major sound system at home so I enjoyed the theater sound experience for the musical performances.

While the wildness was obviously toned down for a broader audience, you still got a good feel for his life as a rock superstar.

When I saw this post my initial thought was how Freddy Mercury nailed that song and it showcased his range and the groups harmonizing.

Then I remembered watching a video of Kanye West attempting to sing "Bohemian Rhapsody" and it just makes me laugh out loud at the lack of talent so many of todays so called singers actually have.

It makes me appreciate what real vocal talent is all about---no studio tampering to make them sound passable, just plain old getting out on stage and belting it out, and making it sound like it did on the records.

As for the movie, I do want to see it.

Who the hell calls Kanye a “singer”??

I get the point your trying to make, but that comparison is like saying you saw Tim Tebow trying to be a pocket passer and them making the statement that this generations QBs can’t throw for shite

Oh, he's definitely not a singer, unless you can call a person who can't carry a tune in a 5 gallon bucket a singer.

He hit so many flat notes in his attempt at Freddy's signature song that it wasn't funny. At one point he actually gave up and let the audience take over.

Queen, 1980 in the Centroplex. The best concert I ever saw followed by Earth, Wind and Fire a close second in the PMAC around the same time. Going to see the movie soon.
