Well be signing Morton again

It's simple. Resign morton, Sign Harper.
Championship.
Championship.

A Keuchel re-sign would be about the only thing that could dampen my outlook for 2019

I agree. I think they will resign Charlie Morton and call it a day. Maybe get in late on a value reliever.
With our prospects we can afford to wait out the 1st half and see where we are. I still would love a proven OF or DH bat but don't think lunhow will pull a trigger on anything big.
Morton for 2 years 32 million plus incentives

They aren't giving a free agent 300 million. Forget his name.

A fan can dream can't he

I know this is cliche to say but I'm ok not giving Eovaldi $70M.
Hoping re-signing Morton is inevitable followed by Cruz.
Still hoping for one of Ramos/Grandal but I'm fine with Chirinos if we make another splash.
Hoping they steer clear of Brantley, Pollack and Cutch & give Tucker the AB's.
Kikuchi intrigues me.
Top it off with Bryce for good measure.

So I’ve been out of the loop, how’s the melt down? should I back out of my season ticket handshake deal I made with a few friends?

Rob Chimichangas alone will be worth the price of admission.

My money is on harper ending up a Phillie. They are ready to spend stupid money.

Honestly, I don’t want Harper. I don’t think he would fit in with the rest of the team/personalities. I think he would play fine, but have a net negative effect on other players.
I like players who make other guys better - Altuve and Bregman, for example.
I also don’t want crane hand cuffing Luhnow for the next 10 years. Luhnow has mad good adjustments each season (and some not so good)... signing Harper means Luhnow will have a very limited scope on his approach.
I’d rather that money spent on Verlander, Cole, Bregman, Correa, and springer. (Not necessarily in that order).

It would be prudent to sign Cole to an extension Pronto. Next years rotation.... Yikes.
Posted on 12/6/18 at 10:57 am to Tiger Ryno
The problem is the price on Cole. Are we paying a pitcher over $30 million per season? I doubt it. And if we do, would make more sense to pay Verlander on a shorter deal, assuming that is actually possible?
Posted on 12/6/18 at 10:59 am to Jwho77
Not at his age. Cole is younger. Would rather extend him. 3 years 75.
Posted on 12/6/18 at 11:00 am to Tiger Ryno
Cole knows he will get more and for longer. No chance.

Here are the main pro-Harper arguments for the Astros.
It's less risky paying a stud hitter huge money for many years than a pitcher who is much more likely to regress or suffer a serious injury. It's kind of crazy that Harper just turned 26 so his contract will age well (and be tradable down the line if you don't give him a full no-trade clause).
They have a huge need for a really good lefty bat in the middle of the lineup. Harper is the best one in MLB.
With the outfield filled, Tucker would then become a prime trade asset to get after the controllable and reasonably priced stud pitcher they need (Thor and Kluber top the list).
There are more pros and cons but a Harper investment is not the craziest idea for Ludlow. In fact, it can be argued as sound from baseball and marketing perspectives.

That is simply not the MO of this organization.

Its not my money, so I'm all about Harper.
