Just listened to DOB on Atlanta radio saying Freddie is recruiting Bryce Harper hard and has been for the past couple years. Said he wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s here next year

Love the optimism, but you know and I know. The Liberty Media ownership group has shown no indication they would spend that kind of money. Plus it would be super risky to tie up so many dollars for one player when you have a limited budget. Harper at a minimum is going to make $30m a year, that would kill us in the future when trying to retain the core group.

I just don't think this is the way things work in today's game. Camargo is a very nice player and should be getting 400+ ABs but he isn't someone that stops you from trying to upgrade if there is another starting caliber 3B out there. Freeman and Acuña to me are the only guys who should have their name written in pen when thinking about the OD lineup. Albies will obviously be there as well but I think next season is huge for him. If he is a 5 WAR guy like he was playing in the first half you add him to that list as well, if he is a 2-3 WAR guy I think you continue looking to get better and limiting his exposure to bad matchups. The Braves were very fortunate with injuries this year as they essentially played the season with 8.5 starting caliber players (counting Flowzuki as 1 total and Culberson as a half). I think you need to be at 11-12 to win in today's game, which allows you to ride hot hands, avoid bad matchups, etc. every day as need be outside of superstars like Freddie and Acuña.

$40-50M to spend truly does allow us to be involved anywhere we want and the core doesn't truly start to get expensive for another 3-4 years.
Was talking to a buddy of mine at the game about this yesterday, what do we think would be fair for an Acuña extension? Probably not going to happen until next offseason, but 12 months from now does 8/150 get it done? Fair for both sides?
1M Age 22 (TC)
8M Age 23 (Arb 1)
15M Age 24 (Arb 2)
20M Age 25 (Arb 3)
22M Age 26 (Arb 4)
24M Age 27 (FA 1)
28M Age 28 (FA 2)
32M Age 29 (FA 3)

I would certainly be good with that. Big risk but not sure there is a player in the sport I would rather take that risk on.

Young team in a big market with lots of potential. Sure it's not LA or New York but Atlanta is still a large market
it's probably right outside of the top 10 in MLB.
I just think they land on more established teams. The Braves aren't even in the top 8 of betting odds to land Harper.

Like I said you get Camargo OF reps this offseason and he can get 450-500 ABs easily on a good team, if not more. He could play 3B, SS, and play 2B against righties since Albies cannot hit LH.
Big picture is he a really good utility player on a good team. Sure he could be an everyday 3B. Though I agree that Donaldson+Camargo as a UTIL makes your lineup better.

Bit early to declare Albies cannot hit RHP. Had almost identical platoon splits in minors until broken elbow. Remember he is only 21. I think it would be a critical error not to give him another full season facing both righties and lefties. Hitting left handed I assume will be his primary focus this offseason. 21 year olds are not often finished products at the big league level.

you dont think it had something to do with getting out of low level minors
he has a long way to go to just getting to average here

How was Baez's age 21 season?
Posted on 10/9/18 at 9:12 pm to Lester Earl
The AA numbers before and after the elbow injury lead me to believe it impacted him.
He struggled greatly last season in the first half against RHP in AAA then made an adjustment and was pretty good for the second half of last season and first half of this season in the big leagues. I think you have to see how he looks next spring/summer from that side before declaring a 21 y/o kid a failure from one side.
This hard on you have for trying to label Albies a failure is directly related to the Baez/Albies argument some were making earlier this year imo. Maybe I’m wrong but it seems pretty silly to me. He’s obviously not at Baez’s level yet but you are dismissing a 21 y/o who was a consensus top 25 prospect and has put up a 4+ WAR/162 pace over his first 200 games as a borderline piece. It’s bizarre.

I don’t think he’s a failure. Simply said he can’t hit RHP which is a problem. Camargo has even splits & that would be an obvious platoon matchup to plug him at 2B. Thought you were just talking about him as a Util guy
The Baez shite has past, not even worried about that. We know how that went.
Speaking of his WAR, we do know that was mostly accumulated before he was figured out, right? He hasn’t been close to the same player since that hot stretch & probably should have been sent back down this year. I’m not dismissing him but if you want to win sooner than later he needs to be much better

is hitting 251/293/402 over the last 4 months of the season beneficial to his development? Idk I think you’d hear a lot of differing opinions on that

Now that we know that a 21 year old All-Star will definitely be a bust with all the stellar points you’ve provided, don’t you have a Cubs Offseason Thread to rule discussing your aging pitching staff?

You just stay triggered don’t you

Dude you’re still running with this “Ozzie” isn’t very good narrative and still can’t seem to fathom that even an elite 21 year old is going to have ups and downs.
It’s silly.
It’s silly.
