Fairly common, at least in the south, late 19th/early 20th century.

Played in State Fair Stadium in Shreveport too

From the same era, Southern Miss played Poplarville and Purvis HS a few times. USM is even with Purvis (1-1) and has a losing record vs Poplarville (2-3-2).

Too bad we didn't play more high schools that year; our record may have been better. But at least we beat Tulane.

Interesting that they played Ole Miss in Meridian too. I know they used to play in Jackson a lot. Did not know that they ever played in Meridian.

Always thought it was crazy how LSU lost its first bowl game (1936 Sugar Bowl) - 3-2 to TCU.

I heard in the 1940s LSU lost to Ole Miss because YA Tittle's pants fell down during a potential game winning TD. INT on the next play.

yeah. Opponents are scarce. The actually played the New Orleans YMCA around the same time
