What's the record for most games played against top ten teams in one season. Could we set the record this year. Geaux Tigers!!

I believe it was 4 in 2011

Can’t be right. Teams play 3 in consecutive games at the end of the season now with P5 championship games then 2 playoff games.
If you mean regular season top 10 opponents then LSU only played 3 in 2011 so not sure who you’re referring to.
#3 Arkansas
#3 Oregon
#2 Alabama
ETA: Bama has 5 top 10 wins in 2015 season

2006 we played 4 during the regular season.

And all of those were on the road.

Guessing the premise is at time we play the game on the rankings. Could be set by LSU this 2018 season:
Miami, Aub, Georgia, and Ala. for starters. Possibly Georgia again in SEC championship game. Possibly 2 in playoffs. Total: 7 max. out of 14 games. That's crazy. Also, if you throw in "top 25" teams in 1 season it gets even more impressive w Fla., possibly Miss State, and AtM. That would be 10 of 14 opponents. What a schedule and what a season - so far. Keep it up Tigers. NEXT!

once upin a time, posters on here were fretting over the fact that LSU may play 3 top 10 teams in a row...
well Mississippi State turned out to be...Mississippi State, and that went up in smoke.
I am curious, I am assuming you mean at the time of kickoff, not at seasons end?

Didn’t LSU play 4 on the road in 2006?
Auburn, UF, Bama, and Tennessee?

If we took it all the way to Santa Clara, that’d probably be 7. That’s gotta be close

With any other conference schedule LSU would be a lock

Good question. We can potentially face as many as 7, with the big IF we win the SEC West, make playoff, and advance.
Let's just focus on beating No. 22 for now.

Depends on what rankings you use. Here you are using the rankings when the game was played, but typically you should go by the rankings at the end of the season.

Ar-Kansas, not Bama.
I went to all 4
Auburn cheated.
Jamarcus fumbled the game away at UF.
Tennessee was a hell of a game we pulled out a victory in.
Ar-Kansas lost the 1st game of the season to USC and didn't lose again until they played us last game of the season. They had everything in front of them to make the BCSCG, and they got whipped by us at their own place, then whipped by UF in the SECCG.

1995 Nebraska 4 top 10 teams (both at the time and in final poll) by an avg of 24.6

The record is probably 10, set in 1907

I always go by rankings at the time the game was played. There may be a reason a tesm drops in the rankings —- injuries, etc. Also, if a team was #8 when we played them and dropped to #12 after we won it makes no sense to claim we beat #12, especially since if and how much they drop is somewhat arbitrary.

Most top 10 teams played: 6, Arkansas (2014) & **Wisconsin (2016)
Most wins vs top 10 teams: 5, Notre Dame (1943), **Alabama (2015), **Miami (1987).
**Includes bowls and conference championships.

So to you Alabama beat a top 3 team in FSU even tho they finished 6-6
ETA The flip side is 2 years ago Michigan beat PSU early and they were unranked but PSU finished #5 but according it you that doesn’t count as a ranked win for Michigan

Or not being very good

What was the #8 ranking for Miami based on? How exactly are preseason polls not arbitrary?
This season is going on, but when it comes time to judge for playoff rankings and true SOS they will and should use the end of season rankings those are based on how the teams did during the season

No joke. Wouldn't want all of these posters to let it get to their head and come out flat vs UF posters on Saturday.

While it's an interesting question, the most important record is beating 2 Top 4 teams at the very end of the year.
