LSU giving a 2* Long Snapper a Full Scholarship
...why?

Let's assume Alabama is the recruiting model.

Let's check and see how many Long Snappers Nick has signed.

Coach the centers we have to snap the ball is what Saban does

So you just flat out make stuff up and post it as fact?

Alabama's last two long snappers, and maybe more-I only went back 2, were given scholarships out of high school.

Good and rational idea.

OOPS... quickly goes off the rails. (Doesn’t follow his own advice)

yep, that's the other exception

Then why mention it as a new rule?
well if the issue is over the use of the word "new" then it is a matter of semantics.

We've only had 1 cycle under these rules. I consider that still to be new. As opposed the previous decades, not counting conferences attempts at limits, of pretty much the same thing.

The "new" part of it is that we are just now seeing those rules, and their exceptions, on:
- the 85 limits
- walkons and scholarships (the subject matter of this thread)
- and grade risks (they are no longer worth the risk- tighten up kids!)

The new rules, and their 2 exceptions, were discussed at great length. It's not new information. You were part of many of those discussions. What many don't seem to get, and I wanted to point out, that we can give WOs scholarships at the 2 year mark and not count towards that at all, and that those rules (new or not) means that the limiting factor will now be the 25 most of the time, not the 85.

And frankly, I only wanted to talk about the WO part of it because it would relate to a 2* and the possible options for such a 2*, such as WO with scholarship with no impact on the 25 later.

ETA: I guess you are going to make me say it...
Don't be surprised if they ask him to take a PWO with a verbal promise of schollie after 2 years. It's a panic looking for a topic.

Gotcha. I think I misread your first post. Sorry.

As for the 85, I think you're going to see us maxing that out again very soon. Signing a full class this year is going to put us at like 90-95, depending on who leaves for the draft. So we're probably going to see guys transferring out this coming spring and summer.

For discussion purposes, do we see Skinner as a full scholarship guy come NSD?

What does this mean? There are no partial or limited scholarships for football.

When is the last time a LSU deep snapper sent one over the punters head or dribbled one back on the ground?

Punting starts with the snap.

Quit crying about stars and let the coaches craft their team. They have more to lose than any fan. They have been recruiting Georgia deep snappers for years.

Good deep snappers don’t get lots of stars. But the earn their scholarships

This was a great post

I wonder if the Bills consulted geniuses like NFLSU and GeeOH before making such a move. After all, these clowns know everything.

It would be awesome if there were 5 star deep snappers.

nd the second this kid goes elsewhere on a full ride and a walk on snapper sends one over the holder or punters head you guys will be complaining we don’t have a better snapper.

Couldn't a walk on who is already on the team practice this skill, like maybe who ever is the 3rd string center? Or why couldn't Cole Smith be perfecting deep snapping while he is in his redshirt freshman year. Or the commitment we have from Charles Turner, who is only 260 lbs and is going to need some development time anyway and is a recruit on the margins as it is. Tell him we want him but we want him working on his deep snapping if we are going to hold the schollie for him. At least kill two birds with one stone when it comes to this position

when is the last time you seen a deep snapper sail one over the punters head at LSU? been a long time. But when is the last time you seen it at all on any college team? just doesn't happen much these days like it use to. Coaches have figured out how to coach it and get it done.

I have stayed out of this but I have to get in it now. Skinner is well worth a scholarship. We are involved with Rubio/sailor camps. Rubio has stated that Skinner is probably the best he has coached, including Blake and Reed.

It's a specialty. One you only have to worry about in a 3-4 year cycles.

With rankings, there are several different camps and they rate them differently. Rubio and Kohl's are the two big ones

Honestly if we could have our kickoff specialist be a walk on and know we’re going to start him, it would kind of make sense to have the long snapper do the same thing.

And the first time that the snap would be in the dirt for a game winning field goal, 90% of the fans would be bitching about needing a good long snapper.

Get the kicker from Colquitt too. Ryan has kicked a 53 yarder this year in the new dome in Atlanta. Long kickoffs and does not miss many.

Because there is no such thing as a partial scholarship in football.
