ST. LOUIS, MO — The mother of a Ladue High School student took her case to the federal courthouse after her son, called John Doe in legal documents, did not make the varsity soccer team and was not allowed to play on the J.V. team.

Put him on JV, and let him ride the bench all year.

Try a rec league. This lawsuit is lunacy. Any judge that can't throw this case out with the quickness is spineless.

Yup. Federal judge can’t order the coach to play the kid.

It just doesn’t seem like our federal court system was intended for picking soccer teams

I never understood the cutting of players that try out for high school sports. Put them on the jv. Have 2 jv teams. Charge an extra fee for the players to help pay for the coaches/officials if money is the issue. But we know that athletes, or kids that are involved in extra curricular activities perform better in school. That's a fact. So why take that away? And I'm not one of those "give everyone a trophy." I'm just saying put them on a same skill level team and let them play. The more kids that are playing, the better skill and team development you'll have.

So, if 60 kids want to play basketball, all should be on a team? where will this money come from? Coaches, uni's travel expenses? WOW, Don't know what to say to this.

You let the coach weed the kids out. Find out who wants to really compete and work their arse off. If not, they won't come back. If they are willing to put in the work, let them play.

Most high school sports are terrible. I'm not talking the IMG varsity football team. If these kids aren't playing, they aren't getting better, they aren't learning how to work, they aren't learning how to play for a team, they aren't learning how to play for a coach.

The mom probably already has the petition drawn up for when junior gets cut during rush.

I think a lot of you are missing the point that the lawsuit is based on separate rules for the boys and girls teams, not simply because he didn’t make the squad.

It’s terrible for the kid, regardless. He and the school both lose here, no matter the outcome. But if a junior girl can play JV, then why can’t he do the same?

Yep. Just go out and buy a tiny "Participation Trophy" and hand it to the kid to shut him up.

Parents. Or selling raffle tickets. Both methods are pretty common IRL.
