I've been offered a job there that I think I am going to accept. Looking for recommendations on areas to live. I'm 29 and single. Looking to rent, not buy for right now.
ETA: Jacksonville, FL

Really nice place... If I were you I'd live in Cabot and commute to Jacksonville. There aren't too many places in Jacksonville I'd want to live... Maybe on the west side of the base towards Sherwood.

If you like the beach, then live in Atlantic/Neptune Beach area. I lived in Atlantic Beach and commuted into Downtown for work. The commute was not too bad and Atlantic Beach had everything you need for the most part. Ponte Vedra was nice too, but you have a little further commute. Five Points area was a cool area as well and it is much closer to downtown. St. John's Town Center area is another area to check out. It all depends on what you are into; there are several more rural areas S or SW of the city also

There are some nice places off Old St. Augustine Blvd. It’s a great small city that is spread WAY out.

Live somewhere close to the beaches. Anything else is trash or ghetto

I've got a brother-in-law that has lived there for decades as he was a supervisor working at the Naval Base before finally retiring. Even though he's now retired, he won't move, so it must have some appeal to him.
He owns a condo and the only thing he really doesn't like is not having much of a place for a vegetable garden he'd like to put in.

Hey VADAwg where you currently living? Im a native Louisiana boy that left and moved to Jax after college. Been here probably a total of little over 15 years. Im an old married guy so couldnt tell you much on the single life but there are at least 5 or 6 posters on here also from jax. They could give you more details on the nightlife. Are you taking a job in the downtown area or you going to be working away from downtown? That should dictate where you plan on living.
The commute anywhere you work is not that bad. the loop around the city makes driving to work relatively easy. I live in the mandarin area and its the southern part of the city closest to Saint augustine. Lot of nice places to rent out here. The only place you dont want to be is the westside of the city. The beaches are nice as someone mentioned also Ponte vedra but expensive. I have lived in alot of places but the quality of life out here is good. I believe you are making the right decision.

I currently live in the Cleveland area. My work would be in the south side, close to St. John's Town Center. I've been looking at apts downtown, in 5 Points, and close to work.
I appreciate the input. I've been to Jax before but am not super familiar with the city.
