New Overtime rule

They made a big deal about how they reduced the overtime period to 10 minutes. Our drive ate up 7 minutes of that time. Even if they had kept us out of the end zone it is very likely that we would have kicked a field goal with under 2 minutes left. That would have put tremendous pressure on them to just get into field goal range to secure the tie. I love that we got the ball first but i would have been pissed if the situation was reversed. I don't think it is a coincidence that of the three overtime games so far this season, ours is the only one to not result in a tie.

College rules. Get over it. It's coming.

With the advent of fantasy football that would be a huge mistake. There would be games where the QB throws 3 or 4 more TDs in OT. That would tremendously skew the scores.

Exclude overtime stats then.
How is it handled in college fantasy sports?

I, for one, care more for real football.

I doubt the Nfl cares about how fantasy would be effected lol

that's humorous. Fantasy football is big money for the NFL.

I said it in another thread but

It would be cool to be the first team to win with a field goal on the opening drive of OT in the new rules.
Falcon fans would have been so butthurt.

I’m sure it is but I’m also sure it would not be a factor into the rules.

Agreed, if you keep the kickoff.
Each team gets to receive a kickoff with 1 timeout per possession and continues until their drive ends.
I would like college to go to the same system, essentially adding a kickoff instead of starting at the 25.

go back to sudden death, it was a stupid overreaction to change it anyway. Now people have to wonder what has to happen for a team to win in overtime. how stupid is that.

Yeah, I was thinking about that also while watching the game. Then I convinced myself that more ties are not necessarily a bad thing, although I was happy it didn't happen in the Saints game.
I'm guessing (?) that there have been about 1-2 ties per year over the past 25 years. Maybe now there will be 10-15 per year and possibly even more strategy that coaching staffs will start to consider during the overtime period (i.e. playing for the tie or being more risky in spots).

you'd be extremely wrong. Fantasy football is one of the cornerstones of the sports popularity and they are well aware of that fact.

The way our defense was playing they would have scored in under 3 minutes.....
Posted on 9/25/18 at 1:50 pm to TwoDatBait
And we would have had plenty of time to score again

Doesn't the other team get a full possession regardless of how much time is on the clock if the first possession isn't a touchdown?

Why again isn't there just a standard 10 minute period that gets played to completion?
