A farewell to Kirby Smith Hall

As most on here know, Kirby Smith Hall is to be torn down at end of school year.
Construction of Cedar Hall has begun...
...and Spruce Hall has just finished...
..as has the Nicholson Gateway Project Phase 1...
The 13 story structure, the tallest building on the LSU campus, was constructed in 1965. Generations of LSU students have lived there.
One of my brothers roomed there way back before it underwent renovation in 2011. It was not in the best shape, but it was cheap. It's not a bad place to live post-renovation...
...but not up to the standard of the new halls like Cypress Hall and it's near-twin Spruce Hall...
The LSU skyline will look very different without Kirby Smith. Although most hate the look of the old dorm it will take some getting used to seeing LSU without it.

LSU is seeking final approval today on phase two of the Nicholson Gateway Project, an $83 million renovation and upgrade to several dorms on campus.
The project, called the Greenhouse District, will demolish Kirby-Smith Hall, a 577-bed dorm, and replace it with a new 405-bed first-year residence called Cedar Hall. Evangeline Hall and Highland Hall will also be renovated, and the project will develop new AgCenter greenhouses to replace the ones being scrapped for the dorm projects.

I touched my penis there

It will be tough to bring that building down.
Years of booze, vomit, and jizz hardining on the walls and floors makes it able to withstand a nuclear blast.

2003-2004 resident checking in. RIP, old boy. Ya done good. You will be missed as a quintessential college experience.

I will miss the piss soaked elevators and the fire alarm pulls.

‘95-97. The smell of the elevators will live on in my memories until I die.

Fall 04, 14th floor. Paid a fine to terminate my lease and move into an apartment for the spring. Sad to see my first LSU residence go, but man was that place a dump at the time. Weekly fire alarms at 3 a.m., piss filled elevators, the douche at the end of the hall who thought it was okay to converse with his friends at the other end of the hall by yelling with doors open at all hours of the night..... I lived in a frat house after and it was more civilized.

Showed up fall of 2000, told I'm in Kirby. Had heard plenty stories. Thought to myself, well, buckle up these boot straps it's gonna be a wild ride.
Then they said...nah, you're in Herget and this is the first year it will be co-ed. Felt like I'd been upgraded to the Taj Mahal.
RIP Kirb.

LSU has said Kirby Smith is to be torn down at the end of the year every year for 20 years in a row.

I was there in 03. Hated it, but it was close to the nice cafeteria.
With all this nicer student housing, the last bit of tigerland that wasn’t ghetto is basically going to die.

This is a prime example of LSU wasting money. Why would they redo half the building 7 years ago just to tear it down?

First time coming to LSU I was given a dorm room there. My dad and I got into the elevator which smelled like piss and we went back down to residence hall and got me moved to Graham Hall

Ah hell, lived there my freshman year. I was there when the world trade center attack happened. I can remember it like it was yesterday. Was living there when I met my wife also. Fire alarms in the middle of the night was a constant thing. Loved my time at Kirby though. Met some lifelong friends in that place during that year. Used to sit in our room when red lazer pointers became a thing and shine it on people in the parking lot.
'01-02 4th Floor
I think it was 403B but may be off a number.
