I have already accepted I am gonna shave it totally bald and shiny once it reaches the point of no return, but I want to put that off as long as possible.

hair loss products
Especially if you have a balding crown - but also in the middle and a bit around the hairline - you can use Toppik. It works like absolute magic. It's basically small fibers that latch onto all your existing hair (and even where you're "bald" there's usually plenty of almost-invisible hairlets to latch onto.) Seriously, you won't believe it. You can have a friend apply it to you and then magically they will immediately be shocked to observe that they can't tell it's not your real hair.
Shampoos: Whatever you do, DO NOT use the Nioxin. It is actively detrimental and I'm not sure how it gained it's status. My recommendation is the Kirkland Signature from Costco - it was actually designed by one of the pre-eminent hair restoration surgeons in the country.
Drugs: Finasteride is cheap and easy and actually does appear to arrest loss - if not promoting a bit of new growth.
Surgery: it actually works! Let me know if you want to know more.

Shave it & move on. Then it won’t matter how & when it falls out. Been shaving my head for almost 18 years & love it. I used to hate that feeling when my hair was getting too long & needed a haircut. Funny that my younger brother is rapidly losing his hair & always talking about it. I never think about mine & him bringing it up every time we talk made me realize that

I’ve been using finasteride for about a year. I get mine through Roman. It’s stopped the thinning in its tracks and I caught it before it was bad so I’m satisfied with that. I recently got a micro needle and have been using that twice a week. It’s supposed to reactivate the pores that are closed up and make the hair start growing again. Seen people have some good results on YouTube so it was worth spending $20 and giving it a try. I don’t really have high expectations from it though.

I dealt with a really embarrassing bald spot for many year. Prob from 25 up until almost 35. I would wear caps ALL the time to the point I’d damn near feel naked without one. I tried every hair loss product and device you can name. Very minimal results (if any ). I finally just said frick it a little over a year ago and went mr clean with it and grew my beard out a little bit more. It was such a liberating feeling. I doubt your situation was as big a nuisance as mine or your insecurities I’d say but I have to agree with some other posters when they say just shave it if it’s bothering you. Totally worth it.

I posted this link to this doctor's site in another thread. But I think she provides some great information (once you get past the initial visuals and subject lines! )

Obviously use this as the basis of your research and talk to your doctor. Consider finding someone that specializes in "Functional Medicine" and do some lab tests.

There comes a point where you just have to accept it and shave your head. If you're married, your wife will let you know when.
That being said, I would kill you all in your sleep if it meant I could have a full head of hair again.

Has anyone on here tried Keeps? I’ve seen some stuff on them but curious how effective they are

First off, don’t listen to all the “just shave it people”. It’s 2022, if you don’t wanna lose your hair, you don’t have to.
Is a shaved head better than some awful receding, wispy, combover thing? Of course! Is it better than an actual decent head of hair? Fvck no.
Get on dutasteride or finasteride. The former is stronger so I take it to ensure no loss, but the finasteride is almost as good. I know some get the whiskey dick on them, but fortunately I never did so for me it was no side effects.
I started doing this at ~28, and everything immediately stopped thinning, even got a little thicker in spots. I was fortunate to still have a pretty thick head of hair that I then about 5 years later got a transplant that added some thickness to the crown and to the temples, and now I’m rocking as full a head of hair at 35 that I had at 15.
If you catch it early enough, you can absolutely keep all your hair with the pills and make it even thicker with one surgery. If you wait too long, then yea you could be fvcked. It’s all about when you catch it.

Ignore the “just accept it and shave it off” dudes, they obviously don’t have any choice and it makes themselves feel better. Welcome to modern medicine. This doesnt have to be that complicated or expensive.
Finasteride and it’s relatives are a Very small pill and only costs around $15 a month. In about 3 months you should stop any shedding and soon after get some light regrowth. Start this now!
For a more dramatic increase in hair, use with Minoxidil. Minoxidil is more work but gets results in about 5 months. Probably costs another $10 a month. It’s best if used twice a day but many just use it once at night and see progress. The negatives are some possible scalp itching and you will loose a lot of what you gained when you stop. (If on finasteride as well, there shouldnt be much loss). It has to be taken consistently, so only start if you are committed. Don’t go on/off/on/off or all you will get is shedding.
People claim a roller helps some, especially if used in conjunction with the above.
Again, if nothing else, get on the pill asap. (Like call/email your doc or jump on a free app today and get it moving). A lot of the above can probably be bought in bulk to save some money but either way we are only talking about a 3/4 drinks worth a month.
The baldies will also booday about the commitment time but you already do other things everyday like shave and brush your teeth. If you want hair, popping a pill isnt hard. Keep it by the sink for when you do the other things.

have no fear. the cure is always 5 years away

Short of altering your genes, finasteride is the cure

The three best pieces of advice - grow a beard and cut your hair short, (not necessarily Mr Clean level short) and get in shape. I avoided the pills because I didn’t want to mess with future fertility. I’m sure some of those claims are just rumors but I’d rather be safe than sorry because I’m looking forward to fatherhood. If you’re set on trying to fight nature’s call, take the advice of the few folks above this post who have clearly had success with different products.

i mean this is cool and all but your journey isnt over.
Of cpourse you dont have to lose your hair, but you have to get on the pills early and pay a bunch for transplants. Some people just cant swing that

a friend of mine did the plugs decades ago. He probably chose a bad dr but after he got the plugs, the rest of his hair fell out...except the plugs. Now he looks like Darth Vader without a helmet so he does Hair Club for Men

Yep. Noticed thinning in the front part of hairline and got Finasteride pills and Minoxidil Foam. It’s been 4 months now and I don’t really notice the thinning anymore.

Any finasteride proponents wants to respond to this? Research shows a small % of men have sexual side effects, but what’s your personal experience?
