The night the Klan burned a cross in our yard.

My granddaddy was in the Navy on Guadalcanal at Carney field in WWII. He was white. I'm white.....with a red neck, and proud of it. For those of you who aren't familiar with that campaign, look it up. He was 6'2" and when he came off that island he weighed 82 lbs. Of over 500 plus sailors that he originally landed with he was of 62 that made it.
He drank real bad when he got home afterward. I remember one night he set his car on fire because my grandmother took his keys. He had been drinking.
He poured gas on his car and burned it down in the front yard. Said if he could't drive it no one would.
It was a big deal for a 5 year old when the fire truck showed up in our front yard. I still remember standing in my pajamas watching them put the car out. When they left the Klan burned a cross in our front yard just behind the car skeleton. Was a notice to gramps to straighten up. Fire truck didn't come for that. Probably the only white guy in the south who's alive that's had the Klan burn a cross in their yard. Lot of people don't know that the Klan used to police their own also. This rant should be IN NO WAY be interpreted to absolve the Klan of racism, it's just to serve notice to today's minorities that you don't know what true oppression is There was a time it cost you something other than a hurt, over-inflated, ego and you don't necessarily have to be black to understand it.

So your grandfather being a drunk and the clan burning a cross in his yard should somehow be a lesson to modern black people?

I think I get what you're trying to say, but your conclusion needs work to tie it back to the intro. It's like you wrote a paper in reverse with the thesis at the end and the make clarity of it all conclusion at the beginning.
All of this is assuming that the being opressed part to which you speak of is the part where he came off the island at 82 pounds.
Even then, that still really has nothing to do with racial opression, which doesn't exist today, but it's still a different sort of thing.
