If you want to expand the geographic area a little bit, the Parlanges are one of the few families in SELA with the wealth, longevity, and social credentials to be considered true old money.

They do over $200 million in revenue from the car dealerships alone.
That's gross revenue, they could be doing well profit wise or operating totally in the red.

Right?
My dad worked for them as a 2nd job in the 70-80s putting bikes together at Godchaux's. He had an awesome story about a truck load of cheap arse bikes/parts they got from China or some shite. The Ole man Sternberg wanted them to see how many working bikes they could get out of that mess of shite to sell in the store.
Many years later I worked for their insurance company for 2 years. They were absurdly good at the fine print. Providers despised them.
I think everyone knows someone who's worked for them frickers.

Boyce was born to the Iowa natives Clarence George Boyce (1887–1974) and the former Nora Leota Clark (1994–1984) in Carrollton in Carroll County in north central Missouri[1] but moved south to Baton Rouge because Clarence Boyce was engaged in the construction of levees along the Mississippi River.
This is pretty typical of "old money" Baton Rouge. Pretty much all of the money in BR is from new money carpetbaggers. That's not a value statement (if anything, I'd likely argue, it's a good thing and that it's sad that this sort of new money influx development has all but ceased in most of our lifetimes). It just is what it is and a function of the city's development.

Real old money is at least 100 years old and generally very quiet. Usually made before the Civil War in trades of a different era. I know a family in banking and real estate who made it from growing hemp in the "age of sail". Very quiet and unassuming but still very wealthy.

FWIW, Price Leblanc lived in St. Gabriel in a very humble ranch style house. I’m sure he left his kids tens of millions.

Seems to have been quite the lucrative business back in the day. I know a wealthy family in my area that supposedly got their start the same way.

What I was mentioning upthread. Old Money doesn't exist in Baton Rouge, for the most part. Almost all the wealth is one or two generations removed from humble beginnings. Nothing wrong with that at all, but it's amusing to see them so eager to take on the trappings of junior league, debutante balls, etc.
