We are visitors so we get to call the toss. If we win it, we should defer and let our defense hold them so we have a solid starting position for a first drive.

If we get a field goal or touchdown on that first possession, the pressure will start to build on Auburn and I look for the defense to get a turnover on the second Auburn possession. Once again we will have good field position and should get a field goal or touchdown. Whether we are up 6-0 or 10-0, the pressure will only build on the Auburn offense. I look for us to be up 17-3 at halftime with us receiving the ball to start the second half.

If we don’t get that coin toss then, it’s going to be a tiger fight.

What if they score on their first possession?

Who gives a frick? If the first possession decides the game then we are a soft team mentally.

I think we should spot them 20 in the first quarter and see how things go from there.

Not to mention Auburn had a 20 point lead last year to start the game, and we overcame that.

No way Gus takes his foot of the gas in this one. If he has a chance to run it up then he will run it up.

No dumbass. This team needs to take the ball first. It's absolutely imperative that this LSU team gets the lead early, not just against Auburn but in general.

Like 2011, this team can steamroll good opponents if they can get out in front early. I suspect they're also ill-equipped to play with a deficit and mount a comeback. They're not built to play from behind.

You're looking way too much into the first possession.

Or go for an onside kick. They’ll never expect it

Luck? Fate? There is a strongly superstitious strain that runs thru the LSU fan base. How about execution? Excellence? Play hard and smart for the whole 60 minutes? Dominance? Play LSU football and leave nothing on the field?

Would any of that have anything to do with the game’s eventual outcome?

OP is describing a results-oriented team, not one that is driven by a process. The team that folded after a bad call in the MSU game was also a results-oriented team.

It shouldn't matter whether we get the ball first or not.

You always defer when the game is played on planet earth. In the history of fb, how many times do you think a coach has said late in the 2nd qt, "gee, I am thrilled we are kicking off to start the 2nd half". The answer to that is ZERO. You ALWAYS want to have the option to start the 2nd half.

If not first then to start 2nd half. Of course.
