Same Issues Every Year

Every football season we discuss the same problem- OL and QB. Why can we not effectively address this no mater the OL coach or coordinator?

Soccer moms wanting to make make Cajuns great again is why we have Ed O.

Nothing seems to have changed. I really had hope that our offense would open up but it hasn’t. Sadly, the biggest thing that I see is that it doesn’t matter who our coach is, doesn’t matter who our OC is, doesn’t matter who the QB is, the QB play looks the same....

We're still paying for recruiting mistakes, evals and attrition. The transition is nearly over and both the current regime and former are to blame. The former O lineman turned HC left us in a hole last year but I commend the job done by the players and coaches for gelling and maturing quickly. McMillan was never gonna start. Narcisse had a lot of work to do. Brennan needs a cheeseburger. Jury is still out on Burrow. It's his job to study mistakes from last week and get the ball out quicker. It's the job of the current staff to make proper O line personnel moves and schematically alter our approach in order to successfully matriculate the ball down the field.

This is what I wonder too. I can't wrap my head around how we continue to not address the same damn issues year in and year out. I've never coached a down of football but it's pretty clear to me what the primary issues are.. why do the coaches, etc. just refuse to address them? It's infuriating. Sometimes it feels like they are just willfully ignoring the issues.
I've been wondering this since the Les Miles days. Was he so damn stubborn that he just refused to turn over control of the offense? He'd rather be fired than try to adapt and do what was best for the team. Unreal.

You forgot wide receiver.
Oh yeah, you forgot scheme. We're driving a 52 Desoto while others are driving Corvettes.

It must be something in the BR water supply that makes LSU HCs insecure and afraid. They go into "Turtle Syndrome" as soon as the first kickoff.
They talk of bold reckless offenses but it never happens.

There is way too much logic in this paragraph.

They are not ignoring the issue. The true issue with the O-line this year and the program for the past 8 years is underclassmen declaring early.
It's not The L.F. 7's, or guice, or Key's. It's the Chris faulk's, The toby weathersby's, the clapp's, the freak Johnson's, the tolliver's etc that are really making it hard for the coaches to correct the issue.
If you had Clapp, Weathersby, and Tolliver (two didn't get drafted, one got drafted in the last round) this year. We would contend for a s.e.c. and n.c. There would be no weakness on the team.
LSU's inability to keep players, who are very good college ball players, that are low draft picks at best is really hurting the program. These kind of players are continuing to spring holes in the team.
the coaches obviously know the holes. They brought in the #1 rated tackle out of juco to address it. however, he turned out not to be as good as everyone thought. They brought in an outstanding kicker, they brought in a good qb. if we can find a way to keep some draft eligible players that are very good college ball player, we will have more consistency and less holes to fill.

We promoted a Dline coach to HC and, eventually, the TE coach to OC. What the frick did you slap dicks think would happen?
This is why they should have cleaned house on the offensive side of the ball and HC and started fresh. You know, what 90% of fans were saying when Miles was fired.

But the coaches can still scheme around these weaknesses..

why stay in a program that is not likely to win any type of championship because of inept offensive philosophy? Why risk getting hurt? When these guys are able to go pro, they go.

It’s almost like we should have hired a new, offensive minded head coach instead of promoting from the same regime.

Burrow has played well overall, he's putting over 90% of his passes on target, the receivers need to play a lot better and the OL just has to step up as well. Burrow has made a few mistakes but is clearly not the problem.
So far the receivers look to be vastly overrated, but I'll attribute that to inexperience mostly, both youngness and newness of offense with a new QB. Chase, Marshall, Giles and Jefferson will all be much better for us as the season rolls along, you see the talent there with all 4. Still, overall the WRs are not playing well thus far.
The OL just has been a a bit better than a disaster, and kind of to be expected when you have 3 guys starting you didn't expect to start just a month ago. Charles is solid and will be a nice boost coming back. RT is a position we have got to get figured out. Lewis needs to play a lot better and stop blowing assignments so much each game.

Our roster had 10 or 11 offensive lineman instead of 16 or 17. When Orgeron took over. This was the result of bad recruiting and bad talent evaluation. To,be fair Louisiana does not churn out offensive tackles.
We look like we hit on one out of two JC transfers. They did get two kids to wake up and move from defense to offense. So th roster is almost up to snuff. Anyway. Time will tell.
I he LSU offensive line has been a primary limiting factor for anything we want to do offensively against the good teams for several years. Nothing new here. Miles did let you he roster get to a ridiculous spot in 2016.

I completely agree with you. But at the same time, you have to ask why these kids are leaving early. Why does a kid like Clapp, who comes from a well off family, leave early for the draft when his grade wasn't even that promising?
In the past, kids that left early were ready. They graded high in the draft or they just were buried on a depth chart full of future first rounders.
Now it's kids that don't grade well, who would be starting for LSU, that leave early. Why is that?
Personally, I think it has a lot to do with the culture O is creating. It clearly doesn't sit well with the kids that were there during the Miles regime. It apparently doesn't sit well with recruits as well, hence the drop in recruiting last year.

maybe if they stayed they compete for a championship. Just a thought.
