My brother had his boat trailer stolen at the boat ramp. While he was fishing and he was a bit pissed. Called me and I went to Bonfanti Marine on Greenwell Springs Road and borrowed a trailer to pick him up. He had to buy a new one.

Search Craigslist, maybe you can buy your own one back for cheap!

Your tailgate doesn't lock when you lock your truck?
In any event, might I suggest:

Search Craigslist
I searched "tailgate" on Houston craigslist and there were 5 different color F250 tailgates posted for sale today. If a guy stole 5 tailgates in one night and got $1500-2000 each he's making bank until he gets caught or shot.

I literally never thought of someone stealing my fricking tailgate. Wow. The shite you have to deal with.

Houston is crime central, sex trafficking, drive by's, burglary..nit too mention the upper class thieves like the Enron boys and those that allowed development INSIDE a retention pond...

5500 for a tailgate? Good lort
It has electronics. What sucks is that the manufacturer could make this theft go away. Like a new key that has to be "programmmed" to work with the vehicle, they could easily make the cameras work the same way.
Buy a stolen gate, the camera wont sync with the truck.

Unfortunately the po po treat this crime as low level mischief and could care less. Buddy’s truck was stolen from an upper end hotel lot with cameras and the HPD only came because he needed the report for insurance.

At least they didn't get the catalytic converter as well. Trucks/off road vehicles up high so they are easy to get to and quick cash as parts or recycling.

Also, I'd like to ask a truck owner. How many times have you had the need to remove your tailgate? Once per year...maybe?
It should take a small act of God to remove it! Its INSANE manufacturers would make it as simple as opening it.

$5500 for a new one would have me sporting a sheet of plywood across the back

I have removed my tailgate once in 20 years. The reason was to leave it at a body shop to fix a dent in the tailgate caused by a trailer

I've never removed one on any of my trucks in 25 years

Christmas Eve last year crooks in a Houston office park stole catalytic converters on every truck left in the yards. They cut the fence and used ratchet straps to hold it open going from yard to yard. My client only had one truck in their yard and cameras filmed it all in color.
5-6 years ago they stole every tire/wheel on the Bolton ford lot during thanksgiving.

A used F250 tailgate in good condition will cost you $1500-2000 from the junk yard. T
You can get a brand new tailgate to match your paint code for about $750 delivered to your house. Takes about 8 days to arrive. Does not include hardware and definitely does not include backup camera.
However if you back into something and need to replace it, just get one delivered and switch out the hardware and the camera. FYI... the new "Ford" emblem will cost you about $35 because once they are installed the "fins" break off when you remove it to get to the camera. I just replaced mine about 8 months ago on a 2013 F250.
Under no circumstances should anyone ever buy an F250 tailgate at a junk yard for $1500 or more. Seriously.
