Aug 29 (Reuters) - Dick's Sporting Goods reported a bigger-than-expected drop in quarterly same-store sales on Wednesday and forecast further declines this year, hit by tighter gun controls and a drop in Under Armour sales.

Shares in the company fell as much as 10 percent after it posted a 1.9 percent drop in same-store sales, bigger than analysts' average estimate of a 0.62 percent dip.

OB should buy up enough stock to gain control of Dicks then run it correctly.

Disclaimer: I know absolutely jack shite about how businesses work.
No idea if that could actually happen

I'd rather just watch them burn.

The store sucks. Academy is better and cheaper.

I was in a Dick's in Loganville GA just three weeks ago and it had a fully stocked gun section from what I could tell. What's the deal?

Academy is cheaper, but they don't carry as much high end clothing as Dick's. Specifically golf pants/shorts/shirts.

Dick's and Field & Stream both suck terribly. I fully expect them to close the Lafayette stores any day now.

hmmm, if only there was some way to foresee taking unnecessary steps designed and virtue signally PC correctness to people who will NEVER buy your products while simultaneously pissing of 80-90% of your customer base was a bad thing

Did they really sell that many guns anyway? I mean they aren’t even on my radar for weapons. Or weren’t.

Nope. This makes for a good headline but guns have never been a significant part of their business. The same article even states that this is primarily due to Under Armour making the decision to open up their distribution to more stores so same-store sales decreased. Dick's stock is still up roughly 20% on the year and overall sales and income increased.

I don't understand why anyone really cares. They have and always will have shitty outdoor selection and what they do have is overpriced. They cater to soccer moms and golfers.

Yeah, but now Dick's is off a whole lot of people's radar for everything. I won't even step foot in a Dick's store anymore. Good thing we have an Academy a few blocks down the road from Dick's.
