I guess thankfully I've never been that cheap / low-life to even try it. When I go out, I order what I want. I am willing and able to pay the agreed upon price or I wouldn't order it. There are definitely people that attempt to see how much free shite they can get when they go to dinner and I just will never understand.

Obama sure was smart for his constituents when he enacted the law that made restaurants pay Social security,etc. taxes on tipping when it was automatically put on the bill (as you would get if your table had 6 or more guests).
He knew restaurants would just remove that from the tickets, therefore it cleared patrons from having to pay a fair share tip.

Aside from some of the ignorance in the responses of a few people, it's not generally due to race as people want to automatically assume. Not every african american person knows what the average tipping range is and some don't care to look it up.
I personally used to tip 15% because that's how much it was when i was a waiter. Now I tip at least 20%. Some people feel like "why should I tip you for extra lemons or water refills". But thats just how some people think sadly.
Ignorance in tipping exist every where. And it can be due to ignorance in just not knowing better or being taught that. I feel if you were never a waiter, you wouldn't understand.

Cam Jordan came into the bar I used to work at and rang up like $350 in shots and tipped like 2 dollars... I tip more than that on a waffle house meal.

What a lot of people don't understand as well is that at a lot of places servers/bartenders must tip out other employees (bussers, hostesses, barbacks, wine somms, etc.) on sales. The tip out can range from 1-5% of sales to 50% of their nightly tips (Texas De Brazil). If it's a tip out on sales and you only get a $2 tip but must tip out 5% of sales, the server is paying out of pocket to wait on that table.

Restaurants rape you on that shite. $2.75 for a fountain Coke? $6 for a pint of beer? It adds up and ends up being like 1/4 of your meal. Then, you factor in an increased tip, and you're just throwing money away.
