Netflix has set Friday, September 14 for the premiere of Norm Macdonald Has A Show, a new talk show fronted by comedian and ex-SNLer Macdonald along with his sidekick Adam Eget.

quote:

Celebrity guests for the 10-episode first season also were announced. They include Drew Barrymore, David Spade, Judge Judy, David Letterman, Jane Fonda, Chevy Chase, M. Night Shyamalan, Michael Keaton, Billy Joe Shaver and Lorne Michaels.

The Letterman, Chevy Chase, and Lorne Michaels episodes should be great.

Billy Joe Shaver could be pretty damned good too.

Norm trolling Hannah Gadsby fans for their "she's the future of comedy" shite was gold.

I just hope they have a real camera man and a real set producer for this show instead of that abomination that was his YouTube show, from a production standpoint.

I know Norm greatly admires Tom Snider, so why wouldn't he just emulate that format to the T. Two chairs , no audience and just talk. He can even have Eget on the side

They'll probably look at it as a badge of honor surviving Norm...

The Tonight Show just canceled tonight's Norm Macdonald appearance
quote:

History repeated itself tonight, as an NBC late-night program abruptly booted comedian Norm Macdonald from a high-profile gig. This time, it wasn’t Saturday Night Live and Weekend Update, though, but The Tonight Show, which announced just a few minutes ago that it was killing Macdonald’s planned appearance on tonight’s episode, in the wake of a controversial interview with the veteran stand-up that ran in The Hollywood Reporter today.

As previously reported, Macdonald’s interview managed to fall on the “predictable but disappointing” side of a shocking number of pop-culture issues, from his hearsay objections to Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette, to his support for old friends like Louis CK and Roseanne Barr, to his belief that Chris Hardwick was a hapless victim of the #MeToo movement. And while Macdonald has now issued an apology for “minimizing the pain” of the people hurt by CK and Barr’s actions, it doesn’t appear to have been enough to stop The Tonight Show producers from wanting to distance themselves from his comments and the anger surrounding them.
quote:

“Out of sensitivity to our audience and in light of Norm Macdonald’s comments in the press today, The Tonight Show has decided to cancel his appearance on Tuesday’s telecast,” the show said in a statement tonight. (They’ll be extending a Matthew McConaughey interview in the Macdonald segment’s place.) As it happens, Macdonald touched on Tonight host Jimmy Fallon during the interview, defending him from accusations of “humanizing” Donald Trump during the run-up to the 2016 election. Meanwhile, Macdonald’s new Netflix series, Norm Macdonald Has A Show, debuts on September 14.
Norm Macdonald’s ‘Tonight Show’ Appearance Canceled After Controversial Comments
quote:

The Tonight Show‘s decision to pull Macdonald from the guest lineup follows an interview with the Saturday Night Live alum posted by THR earlier on Tuesday to promote Macdonald’s new show on Netflix. In the interview, Macdonald indicated that he was glad that the #MeToo reckoning in Hollywood seemed to have “slowed down a little bit” and spoke in defense of Louis C.K. and Roseanne Barr following their scandals.

In one of the most controversial parts of the interview, which triggered backlash, he said of C.K. and Barr, “There are very few people that have gone through what they have, losing everything in a day. Of course, people will go, ‘What about the victims?’ But you know what? The victims didn’t have to go through that.” He later clarified his comments and apologized on Twitter.
quote:

Roseanne and Louis have both been very good friends of mine for many years. They both made terrible mistakes and I would never defend their actions. If my words sounded like I was minimizing the pain that their victims feel to this day, I am deeply sorry.

What people who don't listen to Norm don't understand is that you can't read a transcript of his words and gather his intent. He's bullshitting you 95% of the time. It's almost impossible to tell when he's not just fricking with someone.

It isn't like this is the worst thing anyone has ever done. What is the worst thing anyone has ever done? You guessed it

Watched Norm on The View this morning. Poor guy looked scared to death.

They did their usual thing where they let him explain why he said what he said. He did a good job, but it was painful to see him have to go through that.

So far...

Spade: Nothing special, but fun.
Barrymore: Some good stuff.
Judge Judy: Norm behaving, but still entertaining.
Letterman: Greatness.
Jane Fonda: Much better than expected. Nice to see Norm hit on an 80 year old woman.

I think I like this show, but it's so weird. I kind of wish Norm would actually interview his guests rather than just interrupt and segue. But, maybe that's what the show is supposed to be.
