LSU was once thought of as a perennial national championship contender.  Now, the Tigers are considered a seven win team, and conversations are pointing to “yeah but look at the 2019 recruiting class.”  When you start talking about the future recruiting classes in a program prior to the first game, it's never a good sign.  When players start holding players only meetings, it's worrisome.  Right now four SEC teams are ranked ahead of LSU.  The University of Central Florida program is ranked ahead of LSU at No. 21.  What's more - the one time whipping boy of LSU, Mississippi State,  is ranked ahead of the Tigers at No. 18.  My concern is a plenty for LSU.  First and foremost - the schedule is brutal.  The reports out of Baton Rouge aren't exactly glowing during the two Tiger scrimmages.  LSU will have a new QB (I know I know it's been a summer trend in Baton Rouge for 10 years or so).  LSU will also break in a new running back.  They have wide receivers who are dropping passes, and an offensive line that has struggled in camp so far.   The Tigers are not making it easy to remain positive.   Time to face reality here!   LSU is a program in danger of going the way of Tennessee.  The Vols were once a proud national power, and now are one of the more irrelevant teams in the SEC.  Tennessee won their last national title in 1998 under Phillip Fulmer.  Then the slide began, 10 years later the Vols fired Fulmer after going 5 and 7.  Sound familiar?  Since 2008, Tennessee has had four different head coaches, averaging 5.7 wins.  Yea, it's not a pretty outlook.  It might be a bit hyperbolic, but it happens fast in the SEC and this could be a reality for LSU's football program.

This should never happen with the recruiting advantage LSU has over Tennessee.

This is what happens when you have the worst AD in the country who hired the worst head coach in Ole Miss history.

I have no idea where this crap is all coming from. Talk to me after week 1. You’d think LSU was already 1-3

So happy doom and gloom club on these boards don't coach at LSU. Heck, they would just mail it in before the season.

When you have multiple players charged with felonies, your leading linebacker asking to play running back because the current crop is so poor, your entire QB staff can't complete 50% of their passes in scrimmages, and the players already having players only mettings with the season not started yet. Yeah, that's signs of deep trouble.

The pressure is on. LSU board not approving Alleva extension says it all. I know some of this is on the players that do dumb shiiiat but months and months and O doesn’t know somethings up? Looks bad for the HC regardless. Due to this I truly believe the leash is shorter. A bad start and maybe Aranda is tagged interim and named HC. Or Lane Kiffin ends up at LSU. Imo best case Aranda doesn’t want the headache and stays DC since he’s paid like a HC anyway and Lane is named HC. Yes he is ready to run a major program. I have supported O even though I didn’t like the hire. But he keeps showing that this is too much for him. We don’t have time to let things fester if O bombs. He better get a grip on this damn team and win some games. If he can’t sense all the issues then we will end up n trouble with NCAA because of his lack of leadership and not knowing wtf is going on under his nose

Players getting together rallying themselves should never be an issue. The problem is labeling it as a “player’s only meeting”. Happens all the time on most every team.

I don’t believe anyone is asking Devin White to play running back. My guess is the coaches might think long and hard about giving him a couple touchdowns for some Heisman hype, but that’s about all.

Finally, I have a feeling Burrow will get it going.

Cotton Bowl 2010 NC 2011, Citrus Bowl 2009 (not considered minor) 2012 Peach Bowl (one time minor no longer considered), 2013 Outback Bowl, last year Citrus. That is six. If you don't consider Cap, Outback and Citrus not major that is a you problem..others will disagree.

Negatives.....get with the program. Don't have to play in just Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta to be considered major. Yes since end of 2013 the bowls have dropped in level but paint the overall picture correctly.

Part of a coaches job is to vet players and recruit, not only good players, but good character men as well. When you fill your roster wth questionable character players, I'd say it's squarely on the coaches shoulders when they go bad.

He lost that chance after Troy, getting blown out by state, bowl game, not filling position holes, oh and going behind miles back and politicking for the job.

Do you not remember Tennessee getting top 5 classes pretty much every year from 1997-2002?

What percentage of those classes were guys from Tennessee?

Once Tennessee lost their national clout, they didn't have a strong in state recruiting base to fall back on.
