Weird bc when I go back to visit Nola it depresses me to think I used to live there. Everything is run down and the people are so downtrodden.
It’s a depressing city with a happy mask on.

I live in the Woodlands. It is the single best burb in the metro. No. Kingwood is nowhere close nor is Katy/Sugar Land/etc. I am serious.
But, both my wife and I work and play a bit in Houston proper and it’s an awesome place if one is mature/insightful enough to look.
I won’t compare Houston and anything in LA. They are not camparable.

See. Thing is, the people and leadership of the area know it’s time to act. They are lining up over $5billion in flood mitigation and voters will accept a tax increase to get it.
That’s how it’s done Louisiana....

Back in the day moved from Charlotte to Houston 1960 area. I liked it, my wife hated it.

I have lived in the Heights the past 8 years and still love it...

Where you live in Houston depends on where you work (aka commuter time) and how old your children are and which school district works best for them.
If you have no children or want to party, and what ethnic types you want to deal with, well, then you get to chose between VietNahmese, Mexican, Honduran, Other Asian, Japanese, Black, Aftican, etc. And buy knowing that the minorities shift rapidly as the faces of the neighborhoods can change rapidly.

Where did you people live in Nola when you were here? Someone said earlier that Katrina took the life out of the city. You people are nuts. It's the best it's been in 40 years. Lot's of new construction downtown and renovations and new builds all over.
Tons of new and better bars, restaurants, etc. Hell, we even have four roof top bars and a like 7 breweries now.

I would bet Houston would be awesome if one lived in the loop.
Just like with the Nola talk, I bet a lot of people just say they hate Houston, but really only stop in for a game or stay downtown and know nothing about the city.

I lived in Midtown for a year in my mid-20s. It was fun but I wouldn't live anywhere near Houston anymore. I've been in Pittsburgh for 2.5 years and it's the best place I've ever lived. Before anyone asks, I was born in Cali, went to LSU, lived in Houston, NOLA, a summer in Colorado. So yea, I have been around.

The only way the Woodlands trumps Kingwood is on places to eat. The selection in Kingwood sucks arse especially post-Harvey. Everything else is a wash.

Having to go to a park to escape a concrete jungle is depressing. Oh cool Houston has more parks than Ashville, NC. Thats because certain cities dont have to have parks when their backyard is one.

Houston is pretty meh in my experience. However, I'm not a big city guy. Obviously I like where I live (Covington...but anywhere in West St. Tammany in general). It is between NOLA and BR so Saints/Pels or LSU games (pick a sport) are easy drives. The food scene in NOLA is world class. That being said, our local food scene is excellent as well. Needless to say it is hard to measure up against the "events" lineup in NOLA. Locally, there are tons of events here as well. In short, I don't "dislike" Houston, it just doesn't do much for me. What's the old saying...you have NY, San Fran, and NOLA, everywhere is is just Cleveland. I get to experience NOLA and not live there...win/win. Houston is Cleveland- South with TexMex. Nothing wrong with that, just not for me.

The feeder roads are still a mess but the freeway is good and there's nice growth in that direction.
