got the shite beat out of me as a kid. Extension cord wire hanger fan belt I cant name them all. My wife was a not whipped growing up and thought it was a good idea. Well now that our boys are 14 and 10 she wishes she would have let me bust their arse
Sounds like you should've found a different parenting method. There are hundreds available other than violence

Science, psychology, and Doctors: spanking doesn't work and causes anger issues and violent tendencies >>>>>>parents who were spanked as kids using confirmation bias to justify hitting a kid.

My brothers and I got our asses blistered as kids. My granddaddy had a peach tree by his front porch and he would give us his pocket knife and make us go cut our own switch for him to whip us with. Talk about add insult to injury.
Luckily my kids aren’t nearly as bad as we were, but I have had to whip them a time or two.

Whipped the first two. Third one would meltdown if I raised my voice to her.

Yeah, I don't get that at all
Hitting a tiny person that trusts you implicitly just seems lazy and stupid more than strict.
ETA: I've also noticed that it's like some fricked up family tradition badge of honor.
"I got beat, my dad got beat, so now it's your turn to get beat!"
Sound logic!

Yeah, this is ludicrous. Oh, apparently your kids will also grow up to be assholes if you don’t spank them. It’s guaranteed.
As if there are no assholes that were spanked as kids.

I'd bet a lot of money that just about any prison is full of kids who got spanked.

Me
I’m not against it, I just haven’t needed to

I've mentioned that, and the pro-spankers have essentially said this is not so.
Here ya go:

As in many areas of science, some researchers disagree about the validity of the studies on physical punishment. Robert Larzelere, PhD, an Oklahoma State University professor who studies parental discipline, was a member of the APA task force who issued his own minority report because he disagreed with the scientific basis of the task force recommendations. While he agrees that parents should reduce their use of physical punishment, he says most of the cited studies are correlational and don’t show a causal link between physical punishment and long-term negative effects for children.
“The studies do not discriminate well between non-abusive and overly severe types of corporal punishment,” Larzelere says. “You get worse outcomes from corporal punishment than from alternative disciplinary techniques only when it is used more severely or as the primary discipline tactic.”
In a meta-analysis of 26 studies, Larzelere and a colleague found that an approach they described as “conditional spanking” led to greater reductions in child defiance or anti-social behavior than 10 of 13 alternative discipline techniques, including reasoning, removal of privileges and time out (Clinical Child and Family Psychology Review, 2005). Larzelere defines conditional spanking as a disciplinary technique for 2- to 6-year-old children in which parents use two open-handed swats on the buttocks only after the child has defied milder discipline such as time out.

People are too hyperbolic on both sides. Defaulting to spanking is likely to cause problems, but an occasional spanking in their formative years is perfectly fine.

I probably spanked my son 3-4 times and when I say spanked I mean I popped him on the bottom once or twice when he was under 6-7 . I remember the last time I did it he looked up at me and said go ahead Dad beat me if it makes you feel better . Get it all out of your system . That boy is now 13 yo , 5'11'' and weighs 185 , straight A student and totally knows how to work it .

Spanking is undeniably OK

I wouldn’t say I ever got my arse beat, but a couple of swift whacks on the butt or a couple of whips of the azalea bush limb on the back of the leg was all that it took usually to get me some act right. I can only remember two times that my old man really whooped my arse, and I deserved it both times.
I did spank my kids but they usually didn’t require it about after the age of six or seven.

Some drama queens in here lack the capacity to even understand these words. You say you spank your child on rare occasion based on situation, and all they see is the drunk daddy listening to the radio in the garage and stumbling into the house to beat the shite out of his kids for leaving the bathroom light on. "because the study..."

My Dad made me get the belt out of his closet and bring it to him . I was an insane mess by the time I would make it back to him . He usually couldn't hold back the laughter . I'm not saying he never tore my arsenal up but it was only once ,twice at the most . Hence the insane mess.
