I think Marijuana is illegal (where it hasn't been decriminalized) so blacks arrested on crmies have something to plead to as opposed to a greater crime.

Law Enforcement likes it, because even without the perp having a lawyear, that is still an unmanageable number of cases to try for real.

I'm quite sure I'll be mocked for this, but think about it. Ask yourself what the demographic makeup is of states that perennially slapped people on the wrist for possession, and have gone on to de facto legalize it.

Whoa.

Money and authotiran power are big parts of it. It was created as a way to reduce the amount of blacks and hippies voting against Reagan.

I believe Washington and Jefferson, perhaps others, farmed it.

As previously mentioned, it wasn't illegal until the late 1800's I believe and it's outlawing was driven by the timber industry, specifically whoever owned the paper-mills at the time.

I don't have a strong opinion as I wouldn't be a user if it were legal. But the fact industrial grade hemp is illegal to grow (has virtually no THC) is beyond ridiculous and shows the real reason behind it's ban, lobbyists and government control.

TBH is would be easier to keep everyone complacent and happy if they legalized it.

Yes, I wondered why one day many years ago so I researched it.

MJ is illegal because racist Democrats back in the day saw it as a way to deport Mexicans and jail blacks in the south that liked to use it.

Funny how things change.

Ironic, in fact.

Then the R establishment several decades later took the war on drugs and made it what it is today.

Yay Government!

Actually not why it's illegal.

Before 1900's, if you had a farm you were required to grow Hemp on a section of your farm. Why is that gone when Hemp has little to ZERO THC in it?

Research Hemp being made illegal by industrial paper moguls.

It became illegal in 1937.

Harry Anslinger and his buddy Dupont got together and decided to make some $$$$.

Harry made marijuana illegal which made hemp illegal. They didn't care about marijuana, they cared about hemp.

Harry owned a lot of Timber land and we all know about Dupont.

One of the most brilliant misdirection campaigns of all time. If not the most brilliant. People still to this day are completely misinformed and ignorant to the entire hemp industry because of reefer madness. It is impressively terrifying what our government can do without even realizing it and what lobbyists can do without being elected members of legislature is it not?

Once upon a time, hemp was a legit option for rugged fabric and ropes. Cotton was directly competing.

The cotton industry funded some of the more hysterical anti-MJ stuff, with the explicit intent to claim the market... and they did.

I can say unequivocally that hemp rope is fricking terrible. Not really seeing the truth is this one.

I'm not a weed fan, probably wouldn't use it if it were legal.

But, not so much the ropes, the fabric. It seems the term "canvas" is derived from "cannabis":
quote:

?The word 'canvas' is derived from the Arabic word for cannabis, a Latin word meaning 'hemp'. In earlier times, hemp was popularly used to make canvas. Modern canvas is usually made of cotton, linen or synthetic materials. ... ??Hemp is thought to be the oldest fiber-yielding plant.

It's interesting that they went after the usage of the plant in other areas besides drugs. There's usually a reason (usually financial) for that.
