My father in law wears his Sigma Chi ring from the 60's.

Always thought that was weird, but I think fraternities were different back then. He served in the military with several of them later on and then worked with a couple at NASA.

He's 71.

Oh and A&M people are weird AF. The ring thing is weird AF. I think they're guilted into it by other Aggies or something. No way that many men choose to wear rings like that voluntarily.

The stole the "ring knocking" from West Point where the tradition dates back to the 1800s, its a military thing.

"The term "ringknocker" refers to the alleged custom of some West Point graduates to gently rap their ring against a hard surface in social situations; this serves as an unobtrusive signal of their status to any other graduates in the vicinity. However, a negative social-networking connotation also associates with the term, in that the term "implies that if there is a discussion in progress, the senior West Pointer need only knock his large ring on the table and all Pointers present are obliged to rally to his point of view."

It's the exact opposite with Harvard grads. If you ask them where they went to school anyone who's not a complete douche will respond with "i went to school in Cambridge."

It’s considered a Service Academy so it is normal.

I would rather my boys go to College Station than Baton Rouge. The institutions are lightyears apart with aTm head and shoulders above. Is what it is.

This is what I find so funny about most of my baw La friends. They really don't realize how far LSU has fallen behind A&M and continue with the Aggie jokes.
