Still don’t have serve after. Not a service academy. Had one friend who went to the naval academy and one who went to the citadel. The naval academy and citadel both agreed the citadel wasn’t actually service academy so if the citadel isn’t Texas a&m definitely isn’t.

Yea, it’s a Service Academy.

According to your link it is a Senior Military college, not service academy.

From your link

Service Academies

For students who would like to experience a military environment while getting a first-class education, the five Service academies — the U.S. Military Academy (Army) in West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy (Navy/Marine Corps) in Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy (Air Force) in Colorado Springs, Colo.; the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (Coast Guard) in New London, Conn.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. — offer an outstanding education and full four-year scholarships. Tuition, books, board and medical and dental care are all fully paid for all four years

Senior Military Colleges

Similarly, the Senior Military Colleges (SMCs) offer a combination of higher education with military instruction. SMCs include Texas A&M University, Norwich University, The Virginia Military Institute, The Citadel, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), University of North Georgia and the Mary Baldwin Women’s Institute for Leadership. SMCs are among the most prestigious and famous education institutions in the world and they offer financial aid packages for eligible students. Every cadet must participate in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, but only those cadets who receive an ROTC scholarship are required to enter military service following graduation.

When I worked offshore it was always hilarious to see the good ole baws verbally destroy someone dumb enough to wear their A&M ring on the rig floor

I can’t put my finger on it, but I consider it odd as well. Maybe too “ornamental” and formal for day-to-day life.

I have an LSU class ring, and it’s a cherished collectible of mine, but I don’t believe I’ve ever worn it.

Also known as a college station hello

There is no "hello" in College Station. It's Howdy! Another strange tradition. They have so many, they actually have to indoctrinate the incoming freshmen. Not joking.

We had a new hire Aggie engineer stand up in a departmental meeting to introduce himself. First word out of his mouth was a big ole HOWDY! It would have been comical if it hadn't been so sad. The brainwashing is so in depth, they actually come out thinking the rest of the world somehow appreciates their traditions.
