No one thinks that Fulton should not have been punished, but this punishment seems to not fit the crime. And others have done much worse and gotten less penalty.
It's not as if the NCAA just made up this penalty for Fulton's specific case.
If you think the punishment is too severe, ok, lobby the NCAA to change the rule, according to whatever procedures they use to make rules. But that should be moving forward, not retroactive.

This is like getting caught with the warden’s daughter.
None of the other things you listed is a direct slap in the face to the NCAA, who conveniently serves as judge, jury and executioner.

Regardless it still all falls on him. I'm pro marijuana but currently its against NCAA regulations so he shouldn't have been smoking it. If he never would have smoked he wouldn't have ever felt the need to fake any test.

I SAY SABAN WAS BEHIND THIS
Posted on 8/10/18 at 7:18 am to Earthquake
Agree but there was little to no chance of an overturn. The NCAA just doesn't do that. We get all worked up thinking there was a legit chance. All he was granted was another review.

Whoever is handling Fulton should have offered him to do a video to be shown to high school senior recruits about the consequences of trying to game the system. “it was dumb, and I was clean, but I got punished anyway. Don’t do what I did- it cost me a suspension.” Part of what these enforcement guys with the NCAA want is to have their egos stroked. Might not have changed the result, but you never know.

Message...your actions have consequences. Sometimes those aren’t fair.
when you have 18 months to think a punishment over, you can make it fair. unless you dont want to.

He was wrong and stupid for doing what he did, but the weird thing is that many guys get caught breaking the law, are arrested, kicked off teams and they don't get banned for two years. When do you ever hear of athletes getting banned for two years in any sport for any reason? One year always seems to be the harshest penalty unless they killed someone or something. Just a strange penalty considering how light they take it on other stuff.

Damn some of you losers just have to cry about everything related to Bama every chance you get. It's pathetic

Yet Alabama obviously tampered in he case of the LB transfer from Washington and nothing will happen to them.

Meanwhile Hootie and Cam get busted in a car full of drugs with a stolen firearm (5 years min) and get suspended for 0 games from the NCAA. But God forbid you cheat on a test.
Holy shite. That's 3 posters on the 1st page that can't get Saban's nuts out their throat

It's not like a judge handing out a sentence, where he has some discretion.
Wasn't Fulton's punishment in accordance with a rule?
I don't think a few NCAA guys can just decide to ignore NCAA rules and reduce a penalty that was known in advance.
What if this was a Bama player and he got his penalty reduced? This board would go absolutely ballistic.

While that may be true, does the NCAA enforce every rule consistently every time?
If not then Fulton has aegitmate argument that he is being treated unfairly

Would be interesting to see if this excessive penalty would have been given to a Bama player.....yeah right.

I don’t buy into the narrative that Fulton is being treated worse because it’s LSU. It’s a black and white rule. Fail a test you lose a year, fake a test you lose two. It makes sense that the faking a test should be given worse punishment that just failing one.
That said, two years is too harsh. And I don’t think players should be suspended at all for testing positive for pot, a drug that is proven way safer that alcohol, is legal in many states, and will eventually be legal in most all states.

I think the punishment is bullshite, but would you feel the same about some dude that ends up in jail because he tried to give a fake sample while on probation?
Are we trying to associate his mistake with a criminal and someone on probation for committing a crime?
C’mon.
It’s basically a 26 game suspension.
The NFL hands out 4 games to grown men for actually cheating the entire game by enhancing their abilities.
6 games if you beat the shite out your wife.
MLB gives half a season for failing a test to cheat the game.
NCAA gives wrist slaps for stolen guns and drugs and 26 games (two full seasons) for attempting to cheat a urine test because he thought it was for weed.
Let’s just have some consistency in this world when punishing people for a lesson to be learned.

So he was 18 when it happened. So what. My point was he’s was an immature college freshmen who made a mistake and was punished worse than a grown man in professional sports.

So, just take the rest and deal with the outcome....or dont do drugs
Very very fricking simple
I dont agree with the punishment, but it is written
