I don't think you truly do. The genesis of his opinion may have been a movie but talking medicine and health is as much a part of the OT as tits and how lame Owl is.

Oh please. All healthcare related technological innovation involves tradeoffs.

If the FDA only allowed medications and treatments to be approved that had no risk of a negative reaction to a given percentage of the population, they would literally never approve anything.

The use of statin drugs and their link to transiet global amnesia, other neurological and muscular disorders is of interest to me, as in you have reduced your risk of heart attack, but you no longer know who your family is, and can no longer walk.

Interesting article written by a NASA physician about his experience.

you make a good point. I just didnt want to post a TL:DR on what most people would consider a conspiracy ploy.

So I’ll clarify what I can in a quick summary. There was a law that was passed in the 80s where the FDA didnt have to fully research internal prosthetic medical devices because it was too costly. The FDA DOES fully research drugs, food, etc. A law was passed where it basically said that internal prosthetics could be graded upon their predeceasing technology meaning that if a product in 2007 was a good, a prodect made by the same company for the same reason would be more easily accepted in 2008. Im not using the exact legal terms correctly, but im giving you the gist. Youd have to watch the film.

Basically, HORRIBLY, untested material were being passed by the FDA on the basis that previous products were deemed okay. So new products of different material were being allowed because the old products under the same name were okay.

I dont think you understand my point. There are things out there that the medical field is telling people will help them when it actually is killing them. It’s night and day to havit an OTC drug warning you of the negatives of taking it. Atleast the bottle warns you.

The other side of the story is the FDA holding up potentially life saving drugs that terminally ill patients could try.

Surprise surprise, the government sucks.

more or less..... kind of... The FDA isnt the bad guy though. The FDA just enforces the laws. The laws that were put into place in the 80s gave way to loopholes that allowed them to be able pass certain things.

And let me clarify, the laws on food and drugs are a lot more structured than what Im referring to which is interior prosthetics.

The fda approves any food and meds, effective or not, if the right pockets get lined. Same with them not approving some great food and drugs. Big Pharma pays top dollar to keep a shite ton of proven natural healing unapproved in the name of selling their chemical treatments.

Treating illnesses makes trillions. There’s no fortune in curing. “This Is America “!!

It’s already an insanely drawn out and expensive process.

“Why are drug prices so expensive?!”

Same person later

“I think I’m gonna sue bc I’m the 1/45,000 that had a negative outcome after taking a drug that was attempting to improve a disease for which forgoing treatment would also lead to a negative outcome.”

FWIW I’m not defending all doctors. Lord knows there are some shitty ones out there.

I just watched it last night and I would definitely recommend others to watch it. Definitely eye opening, especially for someone in the medical field.

big pharma isnt even part of the equation im talking about. Im not disagreeing.

And im certainly not disagreeing in ANY WAY that there is a greedy flaw in the system. However, people are more aware of the pharma drugs they intake. They arent as aware of a doctor telling them, “hey im gonna replace your hip with cobalt which is the ‘new’ technology which is proven to be very effective.”

Only to later find out cobalt is detrimental to your blood. There isnt enough regulation on what doctors can do to you which has a large part on the fact that lawyers are not scientists and have no idea what the frick they are talking about when in court with a doctor. It’s a dirty grey area that I hope gets fixed in the future.

I watched it night before last. How disgusting!!! Certainly this has been going on for a long time and will probably never stop. Medicine is big big $$. We recently had an experience with a medical device that is a medication delivery system, Nuvaring. It is a form of birth control that is worn internally and continuously releases birth control hormones. There have been many, many instances of stroke and death related to this device. My 22 year old granddaughter, who was prescribed this form of birth control two years ago, was diagnosed with a cavernous sinus thrombosis that completely occluded outflow from the right internal jugular vein. She spent 6 days in ICU and has had to continue taking anticlotting medication. The company that makes the product paid out 100 Million in injury claims in 2014. The product is still prescribed and can still be purchased. I am one pissed off consumer even though I’ve never used any of these products.

FDA is the ducking best friend the trial lawyers ever had. You have no clue who shitty the Government regulators are. I used to try to help the hapless Mfers but gave up years ago. Anybody worth a frick quits or get run out of town. Even when the Mfers are killing thousands of middle class people. (See OxyContin etc)
