I think I read we spend more on our military than the next 10 countries combined, 7 of which are allies. So yes, we can drastically cut military spending... starting with foreign bases and then arms contractors.
If we only spend as much as the next 5 combined, would we really be less safe?

I'd rather cut the over 60% of ALL of government spending that is handouts. At least the defense is an actual government job.

Cut it in half.

I think defense spending should be approximately 1/6th of the budget.

Why not cut defense and most everything else 1-2% at a time. Sweeping changes create havoc.

Everything but the navy.
We need to expand the navy to roughly double the combat ships we currently have.

Issue is really how we do government contracts. Spend more on current equipment and less on bullshite like the F35 and LCS program.
Also the Army can be halved. Why we need that many soldiers when we're surrounded by water is dumb.

I support cuts to spending paired with revisiting strategy. Scale the operations way back.
I also support reverting back to War Department instead of Department of Defense. Calling it defense makes it easier for people to justify the spending and nonstop wars in the name of "defense."

No. Defense spending should be increased, at least 10% of our budget
Posted on 7/31/18 at 11:54 pm to DavidTheGnome
I support a 50% cut in entitlement spending

I have no problem with cuts as long as we maintain two things: 1) We do not reduce how much we spend per soldier. 2) We do not jeopardize our ability to wage war. Cut out anything that doesn’t help maintain and advance an effective fighting force.

More than cuts, the military could use some modernization on systems, accounting, and accountability that would save quite a bit of money in the long run.

Plenty of waste. Give me an efficient, lean, offensive military power

You do realize that a ton of the modern conveniences you enjoy came from military spending, right?
fricking idiot.

Military spending is rising to $700 billion out of a $4 trillion budget. It is not the primary problem

It seems we’ve passed the defense aspect and it’s just become welfare for the MIC.
Except for all that lethal capability we get.
What do we get from wealth redistribution programs? For that matter, where is the Constitutional support for wealth redistribution programs?
(FTR, I'd be okay with some defense cuts if we literally could cut anything else - but we're incapable, so frick it.)

Yes, I actually would support removing all military personal and equipment from Europe and South Korea, for starters. Saving untold millions. Of course then that money should be removed from the military budget.
I would also , myself, support dismantling the Air Force entirely, there is absolutely nothing in their portfolio that can't be performed by the Navy. Nothing. Now true, you would see the Navy increase its ranks if you did this, but you would eliminate the AF brass as well as combine their logistics with that of the Navy saving money there as well.
If, on the other hand, the argument is "should we cut the military budget and attempt to continue doing everything we are doing now?" The answer is no, that's dumb. That' like saying "lets cut SNAP funds while providing the same level of assistance to the same number of people" It just doesn't make sense
