My mom's dad. Died when she was eight. Was a sports journalist and said to be a baseball stats fanatic.

My Great grandfather, was drinking and golfing buddies with Babe Ruth, probably would have had some great stories.

My grandfather on my dad's side was crushed by a telephone pole when my dad was about 6 years old.
My great great grandfather on my mother's side only because from the photos I've seen, I literally could be the reincarnated version of him.

Lost 3 grandfathers before I was born. My maternal grandmother got remarried when her children were adults to a career principal who by every account had a huge heart and was intensely kind to every member of my mom's family - always was willing to help my parents out when they were young and struggling.
On the other, more colorful side, I had a cousin a few generations up that was an accountant in the Capone organization. Once showed visiting family "where they drop the boys off" along the Chicago River. "But we don't talk about that."

My grandfather too. He also died of leukemia in the late 80’s.

Aaron Burr?
I also have a direct ancestor who taught in Stratford-upon-Avon when Billy Shakespeare was a youngin' there.

Great grandfather. He was shot off of his horse and killed just outside Denham Springs for cheating at poker. Colorful guy from the stories.

My Uncle
. He died at age 2 after a horrible accident. His older brother was playing with him and swinging him and his foot hit a pot on the stove and the baby was scalded and died.
Tp this day i still lay flowers on his grave and have a special place in my heart for him.
Poor sweet baby

I have two that I would love to sit down and chat with.
First is my paternal grandfather who died about 15 years before I was born. Born in England in the 1890s, he was visiting an older brother in Atlanta when WW1 broke out. He made his way to Canada and joined the army as an artilleryman. Made it all the way through training and then washed out just before going overseas because he failed a physical due to a hernia caused by an appendectomy several years prior. He comes back to the States, goes to New York, sails to England to try to join up there, still can't pass the medical boards. Meets my grandmother at a family wedding, they fall in love, get married and move back across the Atlantic. Crazy thing is, he took his Canadian uniform with him and posed for a portrait in it while in London. I have that picture in my house today.
The other is my maternal great-great-grandfather. Born in Georgia in 1834, his father was one of the first settlers of Cobb County and later a state senator from the area. my gg grandfather and four of his brothers fought for the CSA - two didn't come home. He was elected 2nd Lt of his company, but because of deaths and injuries, by the time of the Battle of Atlanta, he was commanding the company (his signature is on the company muster rolls in the Georgia archives). He took a bullet in the hip as his company helped capture a Federal battery during the battle. He survived, but his war was over. He lived until the 1910s and raised five kids during Reconstruction.

My dad - he died just a few months after I was born. My life would have been a lot different.

My grandfather on my dad’s side. He was working as a service station attendant when two guys robbed and shot him in the back. This occurred in 1960.

I've traced my ancestry back to him.

All of my grand parents. I was born so late in life that my parents were old enough to be my parents.
And they were magnificent parents.

Easy answer: Colonel James Doolittle of the Doolittle Raid. He is my great, great uncle. One of my pledge brothers is also one of his nephews, and we’re like 3rd cousins, or something like that.

I never met my grandfather on my mother's side nor my grandmother on my father's side.
