Ok, but the fellow student shooter gets in the main door with his badge, but he can only get to whatever classrooms he is assigned to. Not all of them.

That in itself creates another list of problems. If you really want to make schools safer, have armed security. Shootings are less likely to happen in places where people shoot back.

Arm the teachers. This is the answer.

You can’t arm every teacher. Not everyone has the mental capacity and maturity to have a gun. Hire real security guards. Cops, former military, private security, etc.

correct $2500 to $4000 per door is the going rate plus control panel, server, software licenses etc. Also for a school they will need a full time person to administer the system and manage cards.

Yeah that sounds reasonable.

People need to understand that the only way to stop violence is with violence. No amount of bulletproof windows and card readers will truly stop a shooter until you put two in his head. That is reality.

That's the only way you want to stop violence.

bullshite. All the security details may possibly prevent or deter a shooting, but once someone is committed and the bullets start flying, the only way to stop it is to put him down.

ETA: I don’t want to see a kid get killed anymore than you do, but even at that age, you know right from wrong. If a 16 year makes the choice to kill and get himself killed in the process, he has no one but himself to blame.

I do agree with your last sentiment, but I think much more should be invested in the prevention phase, effectively stopping the violence before it starts.

So you spend all that money and he simply waits outside for the bell to ring. This isn’t something that’s stopped with money. It might make you feel safe but if a kid wants to kill a bunch of people he will. Save your money for other things. Get psychotic kids help.

It’s impossible. You can only react. You can try to legislate society and mold human behavior, but that is impossible. The only way is to have the will to react.

Get your downvote button ready, I'm talking about gun control. Make semi-automatic weapons illegal.

Yes, there will still be guns in the hands of the bad guys. As discussed previously, though, those are not the people shooting up schools. Awkward Jimmy can't do a damn thing without his dad's four handguns and AR-15. And with the most lethal weaponry being available only on the black market, Awkward Jimmy wont be able to save up $20k to fund his shooting spree until he is years removed from high school.

That is another effective way to stop school shootings, but it is most certainly not the way most on this site want.

They can literally shoot through a window or follow behind somebody coming in. Good ideas I doubt come from anyone that would post them here to be taken

Something has to be tried. You don't just leave your house unlocked with the thought that a thief will just bust the door down and get in.
Little steps can always help mitigate the situation. Again, I never said the door badges will prevent a shooting, just lessen it. Think about if a deranged kid "only" shoots 2 or 3, instead of 15? I'm sure the family of the 10 or so that weren't shot are sure happy some preventative measures were made.
And as far as the psychotic help, the costs of that far outweigh some electronic door badges. Further, we have no idea who needs to be evaluated. EVeryone? And who couldn't "fool" the evaulator into thinking "I'm OK"?

no shite. go to a high school campus for one day and then you'll remember why this shite would be completely ineffective.

its not like kids are going through doorways 1 kid at a time on their way to their next class.

I know it doesn't release the no entry protection, but it is going to get people out of the classrooms. From that point, a shooter would be shooting fish in a barrel.

So you admit that making guns illegal won’t prevent bad people from getting them, but I should lose my privileges and rights anyway because of something that rarely happens. How is that remotely fair? If you don’t like guns, it is your choice not to own them, and that is perfectly fine with me. However, prohibition does not work. It just forces it underground and makes it more dangerous. How about parents start paying more attention to their troubled kids? Or have a serious overhaul for mental illlness treatments and detection? Sacrificing liberties for security is a slippery slope. At some point, you will have total security and no liberty.

People don't want to here this. Groups like the NRA feed them a bunch of bullshite and any type of gun control means the government wants to take everyone's gun away.

I am all for people having a gun for protection and hunting, but I still don't understand why AR-15s are as easy to get, as they are.

People will post the same arguments. "It's our 2nd Amendment right to be able to buy all the guns we want. I'd rather see several mass shootings a year, involving an AR-15 than to give up my constitutional right"

I respect the 2nd Amendment, as I said before, I am all for people having guns for protection or hunting, but the 2nd amendment is a little more specific than "everyone has a right to own as many guns as they want"

quote:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

In today's world, I don't think a bunch of armed citizens would be enough to protect the security of a free state. In today's world, what is a threat to free states?

I know this thread isn't about gun control, but states that have the most guns, have the most gun deaths, with accidental shootings being one of the top causes of gun death.

So if you want schools to be safer, it will take more than a security card.
