I think I’d like to get a real hummer for the hell of it as a camp truck.
Here’s a website: LINK
These are really cheap for what’s prolly a worn out vehicle.
Are they still drivable? Is this a legit site?
TIA

From what I have heard buy then after someone else has done the decommissioned them and done the leg work of getting them registered.
It isn't that it is hard, but it seems to be worth the extra money to just drive it off a lot.

in Arkansas, you have to be a non profit organization to purchase one such as a volunteer fire department and such. We bought one a few years ago to use as a brush rig, it only had 2100 miles on it. They check regularly to make sure you arent using it for pleasure.

Why? If they are demilitarized then they’re no different than some of the trucks you’ll find on the roads right now.

Know a guy who has recently purchased one from Gov Planet. Very legit.
The sell them already decommissioned and his is coming with the form needed to title it in LA. They do sell some that run and others that do not. Read the descriptions.
FWIW, he bought a slant back for $13k. Will take about a month to get to him. They do extensive credit checks and back ground searches on the individual that purchases the vehicles

my bad, I misread the thread. We didnt buy from a website, we went to Camp Robinson in Little Rock and ought ours off of their lot. We gave 800 dollars for it. It had been in Iraq. They had a D7 dozer that they wanted 3k for. Its amazing how big of a loss they take on those things. Better yet, they said that they had just shredded 500 of them that were in just as good of shape as the one we bought. Crazy right?

just keep in mind the vast majority of those are maintained by slackers who have to read instructions to put gas and oil in them.
i would equate it to buying a car from a high school mechanic shop
there are some gems in the lot but there are far too many turds to be a good investment unless it was the generals vehicle and you know it only had the best care with competent mechanics fixing it

I love browsing GovPlanet just to see the incredible amount of shite the government buys

I bought my Deuce and a Half in 2010 when Government Liquidation was running the auctions.
There were still quite a few 2.5 ton trucks in the surplus pipeline back then. After winning the auction I had to fill out an EUC (End User Certificate) and go through a background check. Took a few months since it was my first time. In the meantime, the truck sat on the lot. I was afraid parts of it would go missing but it all ended up good.
The government will provide you with a Form SF-97 for those vehicles that you can title with your state DMV.
My Deuce has the multifuel engine with whistler turbo, and runs like a top. It's a nice toy that has come in handy for several different applications.

My great-uncle bought a T6 from the gov a long time ago. He used to fly it to my grandfather’s house and take the kids for rides.
Can you image buying a surplus F16 to jack around in?

Yeah they are.
Safety and emissions standards aren't the forefront of a military vehicle, which is why you dont see many on the roads outside of parades.

Because some states have retarded rules about military vehicles (or former military vehicles). With that being said, there are some out there that really shouldn't be driven in traffic.

That particular vehicle has probably been run through a "third shop" in the military. When vehicles get so worn out they can't really maintain them anymore they send them to a place on post where they completely restore them. When they come out the other side they are like brand new. In many cases they will change out the odometer with a new one.
That HUMVEE has 47 miles on it after a full restoration.
